New wheels

Featured Replies

Evening.

My 14 year old Themisto wheels are very tatty and flaking so am thinking of buying new ones.

I like the Vega Anthracite ones, my car is Silver, nice modern look.

My question is mine are ET46 and the Vega's are ET38, any big issues please?

Rubbing etc?

Thank you.

The issue with most VAG wheels after certain number of years the bead seal goes and you lose air. Have you thought of having your wheels powered coated grey?

My rear offside loses 5 psi a week, brand new tyres and valves.

I have but weighing the cost and utter hassle due to location, Ebay or any wheel place with delivery, seems cheaper.

The risk is condition of those wheels and of course bead seal given age of purchased wheel.

Exactly.

Cant be having leaks with brand new tyres.

99% going for the Vega, silver car, gunmetal grey, should work.

Did Skoda make a Vega alloy for Superb as I have only come across 16” Vega from a 2005 Octy. I did try mine on my S2 and the arches look very sorry as they sit more into the arches. If you want to make a switch 17” seems the best compromise size vs looks. Plus you can add a little more sidewall to those than factory for comfort/looks

The do an 18 with my specs, just an ET38, am sure they would not rub compared to et46.

Audi S line have an ET51, and look great in Grey.

The price of new Themisto's is outrageous considering their 14 year age!

Worth looking at getting your wheels refurbished (stripped, blasted and powdercoated).

I had mine done 3ish years ago now, made a huge difference to the look and also no more losing air which was the main issue.

Probably around £250 for 4, some places do a same day turnaround.

Cheers

Thanks Tazman.

My nearest, 100 miles away. Want the car for two days at £609 inc vat.

Plus two nights in a hotel.

Not very viable sadly.

Cheaper to buy online and my nearest tyre fitter is £30 per wheel to swap over.

There is somebody very good near Dyce Airport but if you are not there for any reason then no use. As the very good place in Ayr / Prestwick, hence they are very busy and have waiting lists.

Appreciate the advice mate.

Bit of a trek from here though.

Skye a PITA & not financially viable even for Mobile Refinishers unless they had enough bookings.

Exactly.

Its the best place on earth, but about as convenient as Point Nemo sometimes.

You could always offer 'free' Bed & Breakfast to a Mobile van person and arrange more work for them while they come over. Head for thinking, feet for dancing.

Hmmmm, is a possibility I could look at.

Cheers.

Ah, apologies I hadn't realised where you are located ! Yeah sounds easier to buy new wheels !

I used a company in Kilmarnock (Stiggy Motorsport), dropped off 8am, picked up 5pm same day.

Really pleased with the service and finish. My wheels are a dark anthracite non standard? colour but they managed to come up with a match.

Anybody know if an 8j wheel fits our Superbs please.

Clear everything still and zero rubbing at full lock?

Ta.

Hi JHJ70,

8J will fit if the offset is adjusted accordingly. From memory you need an ET of 40 with an 8J rim (ET 45 on a 7.5 J rim), otherwise the rim will stick out beyond the bodywork. Plenty of online ‘wheel & tyre’ fitment sites can help you here. 👍

What's the source for the ET45 for 7.5J? The factory-fit 7Jx17" wheels have ET49...
