Mk4 Superb seats discussion - Durability, Comfort, Maintenance

Featured Replies

Hello everybody. I would like to ask the owners for your feedback on the various seat options available on the new Mk4 Superb.

We are currently in the process of replacing our beloved Mk3 TDI with a Mk4 PHEV. The Mk3 is very low-mileage and in mint condition, partially due to my OCD when it comes to maintenance. To be honest, I’m sad to see it go, but it’s a logical financial decision.

The Mk4s we are considering have four different seat versions:

1) standard cloth seats,

2) base Sportline seats (without ventilation; perforated Alcantara),

3) optional Sportline seats (with ventilation; perforated leather),

4) L&K full leather with ventilation.

I have a few specific questions:

Comfort: For the broader drivers here, how do you find the Sportline seats on long journeys, compared to the flatter seats?
Durability: What is the real-world wear and tear like? I have seen some complaints regarding the L&K leather's condition after a worryingly short amount of time. Could it be that cloth version is actually more durable?

Maintenance: For those with regular cleaning habits, how difficult is it to maintain the ventilated seats? I’m concerned about debris getting into the perforations and the difficulty of conditioning the leather without clogging the holes.

Any other thoughts or long-term experiences would be greatly appreciated!

All alcantara seats in all VW/Skoda are great and show no wear up to 120k I have driven so far.

Leather in recent S4/Passat and other cars dropped the quality and stretch out just from sitting on them with low mileage.

I do around 1000km one way in my S4 and the Sportline seats are comfortable. Unfortunately alcantara seats are ventilated only in Passat and this feature is missing from the sportline seats in S4. But the ventilation in VAG cars are pretty weak anyway compared to other brands so one does not miss that much.

Hi, I got L&K full leather with ventilation and masage. Coming from MK3 full leather seats without the extras on 98K miles. Old seats while showing slight wear but held great and for me were more comfortable whan new ones. New ones are also good but seems to be more narrow so every time I need to adjust myself in the middle of the seat. Done 13K in my MK4 with 2 trips over 2000 miles without an issue. Big and tall driver here.

I have an SE L 2025 Superb with the Alcantara ventilated massage seats.

Only 4K on the clock.

Both my wife and I find the front seats more comfortable than the mk8 Passat it replaced, I’ve never used the ventilation, I hope it’s needed in the next couple of months. I drive on average 21 miles each way, with shorter and longer every month 95 miles each way and local journeys.

The seats are very comfortable for me at 6 foot tall and slim, the adjustments are easy to setup and work every time you exit/enter the vehicle. The massage options are a boon for my aging back, offering relief over the medium and longer journeys.

The only minor issue with driver comfort for me is the centre arm rest is too low down and not adjustable for a comfy rest for my left elbow. I’m used to it now and it’s not really an issue, but initially I missed the adjustability of the Passat centre rest.
