Dust Caps

Featured Replies

First week the little darlings break up from school and all my alloy dust caps have been nicked

Unless anything is nailed down these days it gets swiped by low lifes!.

I got some of the 8 ball ones off ebay, bit scared to put them on tbh, maybe for shows only ;)

Every single dust cap replacement that Ive had has been stolen by kids. Its just not worth having them unless you can catch thgem red handed, then what? A serious letting off??

They should work

The skoda emblem should put any kid off them:D :D :D

In my experiance anti theft ones just knacker the valves when they do try to wrench them off, then seize up so you cant get em off anyhow.

.... I went through about 4 different sets including the anti-theft ones (which when they corroded could be taken off easily).

Funniest time was when I was at work and saw a couple of kids aged about 8years on bikes leaning against the car as they unscrewed the caps...

I shouted at them and told them to 'go away' (see swearing poll) only for them to reply with the 'single fingers' and casually ride off...

Just wished I could of caught them and let their tyres down.....

Saying that, that would only be followed by their lump of a dad (or mum) visiting me and keying the car..

i agree Ross , they are a pain in the butt when you're doing a service and the k##b hasn't left his/her 0.5 mm allen key in the car to get them off :thumbdwn:

My neighbour smears chilli peppers on his car as he says that way if they do take then rub their eyes boy will it hurt! Not sure if this is legal although his car is intact! He does it when parking for short periods in dodgy areas!

Lorna

i think its a nation wide thing as well , because a lad at work says his kids have been doing it , in Netherley, Liverpool

Do dust caps actually offer a lot of protection for the valve, or is it fine to run without then? Can't imagine dust is the main concern of a valve!

Chris

I have had a few valves develop slow punctures on an old car where i couldn't be bothered to replace the valve caps when they got aquired (black ones at that!!)

Not sure if that was dust or what, but the standard black caps can't hurt.

But what exactly do the brats take them for in the first place? Is there some bizarre alternative use or profiteering to be had from that is not entirely obvious to me, or is it just 'because they're there'?

They sell them to the Russians when they run out of mobile phones...?
