New brakes fitted

Featured Replies

So at last got my brake upgrade fitted today and wow what a difference.

Brembo 4 pot calipers complimented by Ferodo DS2500 pads and custom made braided lines.

Soon to go Stage 2

Very nice indeed🤩

Normaly you have To Code Abs Control Unit

Why? Not doubting about your sayings, just curious to understand. 😉

In the Abs Coding is Front & Rear PR Code of the Break

And how to handle brakes when they have no existing PR code?

Unless TSI280 version may have 4-piston brake calipers already? I don't remember... If it has, do you mean using TSI280 PR codes would be the trick?

Since @MarioVrs already has a TSI280, recoding is maybe not needed... 🤷‍♂️

No coding required as far as I'm aware. Only thing is that brake pad wear wire is now been disabled so i won't get brake pad wear light but i never let it run down that low anyway so not bothered about that

Just for awareness - I recently took the DS2500 pads off the rear (kept the fronts) and went back to standard pads.

They developed a squeal after a couple of thousand miles and the only way I could reduce it (but never got rid completely) was to do a few heavy stops and get the heat into them. After some normal (ie gentle) braking the noise would start to escalate again.

Have since read that on the 280s the rear brakes are quite big in comparison to the fronts and tougher pads aren’t really needed unless you’re going to work the brakes.

Hopefully you won’t have the same experience but if you do, that’ll be why.

Coding during brake conversions is always a tricky subject. If it weren't necessary, why would the OEM bother? Even the ABS control unit has a data set. Coding activates different parts of this data set. To put it dramatically, you're essentially converting the brakes from a Fiat Panda to a Porsche. The control unit, however, still operates with the Panda's data. This means that in very rare situations, which will likely never occur for some people, your entire braking behavior could go haywire. Wherever the system brakes automatically using driver assistance systems, the ABS coding anticipates a certain delay at a specific time X, which is when the system automatically activates the valve for that time.

Was thinking to do rears too but they are staying OEM. Won't be putting doing track days or anything in them 😊

Thank you for the heads up mate. I won't be using it on track days or any racing. So I'll just keep them DS2500s on front and rear will stay OEM for now
