Strange noise!!!

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Any idea what this is? If I change down from 3rd to 2nd at high revs in my vRS, I sometimes get a highish pitched noise that seems to vibrate slightly, up through the gear stick. It only happens intermittently and seemingly only in this hot weather - not sure about this as I first noticed it during this heatwave. Also, it only seems to occur if the clutch doesn't bite fully 'quickly enough' which is easily done as the bite is so near the top of the pedal. I thought it might be the thrust bearing at first as the noise is certainly similar. However, on previous cars that I've owned, worn thrust bearings can be heard in virtually any gear when changing up, or down , not just down and not just between 3rd and 2nd:confused:

Thought I'd sound all of you out before taking the car to the Dealers - It's only 6mths old with 5k on the clock - stutters too but not enough to get leary about:rolleyes:

As always, any advice would be most gratefully received.

Suncat:cool:

could be just the clutch making the noise as its released when your changing gear especially as you said "changing down at high revs"

Why would you want to change down at high revs in a diesel?

The bite shouldn't be near the top of the pedal in a new car surely.......

Perhaps I should have made myself clearer. When I said 'high revs' I merely meant revs at the higher end of normal operation, i.e. up to 4500 max. The higher revs occur as a result of changing down in order to slow the vehicle when approaching slower moving vehicles for instance. I tend to use a mixture of gears and brakes when slowing as this gives you more control over the vehicle. The point at which the clutch bites is always quite high in the vRS and there is no manual adjustment.

I'm sorry fella, you have still lost me.........

Brakes slow your car down, that's what they are for......

if you are having to use engine braking as well, you are driving too fast for the road/traffic conditions.

My vRS clutch bites perfectly......as does every other Fabia I have driven...

STILL....

I was asking for advice, not an argument about driving styles:finger:

**** you too:finger:

Don't ask stupid questions so late at night then,

and learn to drive, idiot.:D

it's probably your DMF trying to cope with the excessive revs. and stress.
