Whats these marks on the rear window?

Featured Replies

I've noticed this before, but not thought a lot of it, until polishing up her rear end. Theres some rather odd marks either side of the rear window, where the glass seems ot be sitting against the black plastic (?) stuff behind it at the edges. It almost looks like theres damp or air in there. Theres no obvious way to make these unsightly marks go away is there?

Is this normal on other Fabias about 2 yrs old?

Dont suppose it would be covered under warranty?

Cheers

Id say it would be worth reporting to your dealer. Get them to take some photos and submit them to Skoda. I wouldnt say its normal.

Got that on my Fabia (2004 '53) too.

It could be the glass de-laminating, you should get a new screen no problem.

AFAIK the rear screen is not laminated so cant de-laminate , and yes my March 04 VRS has the marks under the glass , i'm not that bothered though at present

Got exactly the same running up both sides of my rear window. Also happening in the lower corners too. And my car's just over two years old...

i can see a theme running here , cars just over 2 years old

It's dirty water ingress down the back of the join, causing a tide mark.......

That's what I tell myself anyway..........

I'm probably wrong though..:D

Pretty sure my 3 year old Fabia had this too.....

Chris

My Vrs is 30 months old with exactly the same problem. Seems more noticable in the hot weather, but it could be my imagination :D

Just been to check my March 04 and there are smaller marks like that on mine. Do we go back to the dealer?

Guess what...............March 04 and mines the same, Looks to me like it's the glue that they use to bond the glass in with..................Maybe wrong

I think I'd rather leave well alone. It's a bit scary when the window fitter is cutting the old glass out, a bit too close to my lovely paintwork for comfort

Same here, my Vrs is only 18 months old and the marks have been there for at least 3 months now. :thumbdwn:

we have all decided that you can volunteer to go to the dealer to see what they say about the rear screen mark , then report back with the findings , is that OK ?:D :D

May well do it later today as I have to go near the dealership. Will let you know if i do.

My 05 model vRS has the same marks. I'm pretty disappointed with the quality of my Fabia, all the chrome-work on the car is going off too.

Mine had a new rear screen last November after dealer accidentally shattered it:mad: :(

So on the plus side it should go longer before marking:)

Right now its perfect:thumbup:

Don't recommend breaking the screen to get a new one though, its a right pain in the azse to clear up the mess and bonding the screen in isn't a 5 minute diy job.

Thanks for the all comments. Got to say, its disappointing that the rear window has a tendancy to do that, although glad in a way that I'm not alone.

I'm booked in to the dealer on Saturday for something else, I will ask them to take a look and advise what they think has went wrong.

Anything I find out, I will report back here.

If anyone else is able to pop in to their dealer for advice on this, anything you find out would be much appreciated.

My initial thoughts on seeing it were that it made my otherwise clean and shiny rear end look a bit ugly. Now with talk of de-lamination of glass, bonding of glue coming away...theres the concern that there might be a safety issue if in a few more years it continues to get worse and eventually the rear window decides to jump out while on the motorway or something..??

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again,

Ross

...UPDATE...

Took Fabia in to dealer to get various little niggles sorted out prior to warranty expiring. They couldn't confirm or deny whether the marks on the rear window were a safety concern but did confirm they shouldn't be there.

The fix is to replace the rear window - which I wasn't really wanting to hassle them with unless it could potentially become a bigger problem. However, they arranged for a third party (RAC I think) to replace the window.

Good news is - the marks are now gone and the window looks how it should.

Bad news is - heated rear window no longer works, rear wiper scrapes metal on glass and the rear washer misses the window when it squirts. I'll need to get it back in.

Yep had my rear screen replaced under warranty for the same fault too.

I had this on my Fabia and it was replaced under warranty, no problem.
