She's got to go

Featured Replies

Pretty much decided my Octy vRS has got to go, baby due in October and I just can't afford to run it anymore. How much do you reckon I could get for it? Its a Y reg in Red, 38k on the clock, full dealer service history, spare wheel is an alloy. Will have 1 yrs MOT, 6 months tax, 3 new tyres. Just had 40k service done with rear brake pads changed and also the Cam Belt. Got slight scratch on rear bumper and scratch on one alloy wheel.

Any ideas on what I could get for it?

I think you could get a straight swap for a sensible family orientated Octavia Elegance estate.

Sure someone put a link up to a car valuation site.Guessing at £4.5-£5k

Apart from the insurance I think the octavia is as cheap to run as a basic car.As to an estate,I don't think there is anymore room than the hatch really.

Good mpg,cheap services etc.

Good luck though

Go to the Vauxhall site and click on the value my car link off one of the menus. Will give you a Glasses' guide figure which is the px price you could expect, so will give you some idea of the ball park you're looking at. :D

If you're looking for a replacement car with super-low running costs, look at the diesel offerings from Ford and Vauxhall :D

Was thinking more along the lines of a Toyota Corolla Verso diesel. Its an MPV i know, so I might as well get castrated cos its the end of my manhood, but the vRS is just tempting to drive fast. I was hoping to get around

Agree with Loz - the only thing that I can understand being expensive about keeping it would be insurance as everything else fits the bill for a family and it doesn't cost any more than most other "family" cars with reasonable safety etc (i.e. not a rent-a-wreck with no safety features :D ).

I have two kids and have a Y reg Octy RS and its brilliant for all the junk etc - we've been down to Southern France on holiday etc with everything just in the boot  Given that our cars are unlikely to be worth more than

We have considered selling the Octavia and buying a Corsa/Fiesta etc. for SWMBO. But as others have said, when the value is so low and th ecar is still fine, whats the point?

The cost of changing car is often far higher than the savings you will make in the first couple of years with the "new" car.

Its the fuel economy that's getting to me and the cost of tyres too! Fulled it up yesterday and it cost me almost £60! I get around about 270 miles from a tank. I'm thinking that if I get a diesel I'll get double that and I'll also be less tempted to speed as well.

I travel at the same speed' date=' irrespective of the car I'm driving (well except for that Micra I had!), and still get 500+ miles out of a tank of diesel :D

Another nail in the coffin then............I had a 306 DTurbo a while back and could get 600-700 miles from a tank and I drove the nuts off it. I must be getting old cos I like the look of the Corolla Verso's and think that it would just be a better family car......easy to put the pup in and out of and all that sort of stuff.

Thought about the Roomster ??

I filled both cars the other night spent over £95

Yeah the Roomster would suit you down to the ground?

What about a Roomster 1.9TDi Level III in Ocean Blue?

Lovely car, much nicer than a Verso?

Have looked at the Roomster brochure, its what started me thinking and a 1.9TDi Level III would be great but I can't afford the

Why not part ex your vRS as the deposit on a PCP scheme, over 3 years, assuming you won't be doing massive miles. The money you save on fuel a month and insurance will probably cover at least half of the monthly rental cost?

Still got about £6k on the bank loan, so can't afford any more finance

Lol , reading this with interest. I just bought my wife an octy 1 vRS as a family runabout.

The running costs are the same, or even less, than her 2003 1.6 megane 2 was. Although she only does around 5-7k a year max.

we have found it the ideal family motor so far.

You could try driving it sensibly to significantly reduce your tyre and fuel costs.

Is finance a definate no no, or would £2 - £3k over 2/3 years be okay?

I think you're insane to ditch a car you're still paying for.

IMHO of course.

Unless you buy a cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, cheaper to run car to replace it with ;)

But he's talking about selling the Octavia for £5500, buying another car for £7000 and still paying for the Octavia.

He has £6000 outstanding on the finance so its mad.

Its not finance on the car, its just a personal loan that I can get a few more grand on it. I'm still not 100% certain I'm going to sell the Octy anyway just very confuised about what to do

Keep it - you'll only miss it when its gone.
