ACC vehicle detection switch

Featured Replies

Hello.

I have an Octavia VRS (71 plate) that has adaptive cruise control. When in cruise control I noticed it would occasionally recognise vehicles to the right of mine in lanes 2 or 3. I don't make a habit of undertaking so this would just be when in busier traffic situations and I was being overtaken by vehicles that wouldn't then continue forward. It would cause the cruise control to regulate the vehicle speed to prevent an undertake.

I have just noticed it no longer recognises vehicles to my right and now continually recognises vehicles to my left, constantly cutting the vehicles speed when overtaking a line of slower lorries for example. It has made the cruise control almost unusable. I've found the setting to turn the vehicle detection off to use like normal cruise control but nothing in the settings to switch the vehicle recognition back to the right. It's as if there's been some kind of update that now assumes I am in a country that drives on the right. Any ideas why this has happened or what can be done to correct it?

Mine used to persist doing this ages ago, several s/ware updates eventually resolved it apart from the odd occasion now and then - usually triggered by being on a long right hand bend when the car somehow gets confused. It settles back to normal after a few minutes. The other time it gets confused is on return from a trip to France. After disembarking from Le Shuttle it seems to think I’m still in France for the first three or four miles of the M20, is fine after that for the next 100+ miles. Always behaves impeccably when on the continent 🤷‍♂️

As for your car, how long have you had it and do you know if it’s been updated - not just the infotainment unit but other embedded modules too?

If you haven’t already, try forcing a restart of the info system - press and hold the on/off button for about 10 seconds or so, you should see it begin a reboot.

If you have access to ODB11, there's a setting you can adjust to prevent this. It's never happened to me, but I did alter the setting to prevent it just so it never does.

I've had the car just over a year now. I can't recall when I did the last update, probably in the last few weeks. I've only done the ones that pop up on the infotainment screen and I usually just press 'update now'.

Thanks for the tip on the reset of the system. I'll give it a try if it persists after the next update. I might just run in standard cruise control for a while as I am still undecided on the adaptive side of it.
