Looking at Octavia and Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

hi guys,

aint been on here for a while since i sold my octavia, but I'm thinking of returning to skoda in a few months.

thinking of either getting a fabia VRS or an Octavia VRS.

As i will be just about to turn 19 at the time the fabia will be cheaper on insurance but i could get an octavia vrs for cheaper, so i guess in that sense they balance each other out.

So my question is what are good points and bad points with reference to each car, The statistics on the fabia vrs don't look impressive but i've got a slight feeling the performance statistics dont do it justice, having never driven one i wouldn't know, this is why i'd like to ask your advice.

cheers

chris

Drive both, but here are the rough pro's and con's...

Octy

Pros

- Bigger

- Faster

- Sounds better

- More equipment

- Better handling

- Better brakes

- More moddable

- Longer service intervals (on variable)

Cons

- Less economical

- More expensive insurance

Fabia

Pros

- Economical

- Will be newer

Cons

- Slower

- Diesel (yuk!)

- Naff handling

- Naff brakes

- Shorter service intervals

- Less equipment

HTH :D

Sorry Chris it's................

Depends on what you're after more than anything. The Octy is more spacious, can be tuned much higher at similar expense, but uses a ton more fuel.

Conversely the Fabia needs a fair bit of work (IMHO) to get it to handle well enough to cope with large amounts of extra power.

I'd have a test drive in both, especially if an Octy is cheaper overall and you don't do too many miles :)

cheers for the advice guys, great help, like you say driving would probably make my mind up.

However as iw ill be close to turning 19 at the time i guess money is also a deciding factor, im currently driving a rover 218is (118bhp). im on my parents policy at the moment but i want to start my own when i return from africa in january and before i go into the navy hopefully next july-september time. so i would be looking at getting one next january.

The octavia definitely does appeal to me more, i don't know why, i just personally find it more attractive, but as you say driving them is probably a good idea.

cheers again.

chris.

PS are there any skoda specialist insurers that might be worth trying for a quote?

Worth trying, but I'm not sure they insure young'uns! I'd stick your details through confused.com and see if any of the companies come out cheap for you :D

After looking at insurance, rangin from the octavia at over 5000, to the fabia under 2k, i think ill be going for the fabia. lol. I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

i own both m8 and even though i pref the oct i also love the fabia ... its a fun car to drive and the 6th gear is heaven on the mways ... and i defo agree the insurance dif is not even worth thinking about ..... and i dont think theres much diff in performance below 100mph :) lights to lights drag race would be close ( standard cars that is )

A standard Fabia vRS is quicker than a Remapped Octavia vRS.

  • Author

wow seriously?? i didnt think that at alll? i thought the octavia was generally quicker in all respects, it has a better 0-60 time doesnt it??

chris

A standard Fabia vRS is quicker than a Remapped Octavia vRS.

LOL are you sure?

I think you are so wrong there m8. A standard octy vrs is quciker then a standard fabia vrs (in a straight line)

A standard Fabia vRS is quicker than a Remapped Octavia vRS.

So a remap must actually slow the octy down does it? lol. You need to check the figures I think.

  • Author

ah, thought it might have been slightly wrong though. Can i ask though, does the figures on the fabias 0-60 do it justice?? obviously the figures are taken with a full tank of petrol, just wandered what peoples experiences have been with regard to it on like a quarter tank??

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Chris

Is this a fifth gear comparison with it going backwards

A remapped Octy vRS should trash utterly a standard Fabia vRS.

A remapped Fabia vRS may give a standard Octy vRS a run for it's money if not exceeding 100 mph - otherwise, again the Octy will drive off.

It's still a diesel, it's got a heavy lump up front, and an Octy turbo will frankly just be more tuneable at reasonable expense (IMHO of course, and I drive a Fabia vRS :P )

The Octy is faster and quicker (yes they are different) than the Fabia.

No question.

Off the wall suggestion, try a 2.0 Fabia. Good car and very underrated. Should be able to pick one up cheap too.
