Car goes into limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me, I own a Skoda superb 2016 dsg, I’ve been driving along and suddenly car goes into limp mode and my car won’t drive, it comes up with a number of faults, tyre pressure, parking break fault, traction control etc, I turn it off wait a few minutes and turn key again, then it drives for a few miles and does the same again, the code reader tells me it’s lost control with tcm, I’ve changed wheel bearings and abs sensors and still nothing, now my car won’t start as it’s telling me to put the car in p/n which it is, I’m at a loss, please help

Welcome to Briskoda @Jahna43 👋

I've moved your post to the MkIII Superb section so hopefully a fellow owner will be able to advise or help.

How old is your battery? Sometimes a failing battery can throw up multiple faults like this as the drop in voltage means the communication network drops out. Unusual to do it while driving but could be a cause. If you do charge your battery it will also need coding in. Lots of posts on the forum about how to do this.

My battery I bought new in January so can’t be that surly, we’ve checked it and it’s got the correct voltage, we’ve just bought a bypass switch for the gear selector as it keeps saying put in park when it already is, maybe while driving that loses connection???? I’m unsure

I think that would just give the same error as before.

What’s the exact fault code it shows? Have you tried scanning it while in limp mode?

Was battery coded when it was changed?

U010100 lost communication with tcm

P085000 park/neutral switch

I’m not sure whether the battery was coded, but it’s been fine all this time, is a simple battery change the answer?

I reckon it’s the bypass switch. The plugs lock in to place, perhaps it’s not done up properly. If that was loose it may well give those errors. For the sake of 15 minutes it’s worth popping off the trim and checking the connections. Also check none of the wires are pinched by the trim replacement.

Or possibly a dodgy switch. Was it OEM or aftermarket? I got mine from AliExpress and it’s been fine. But you never know.

So it’s turns out there’s 2 types of this bypass switch and I had the wrong one!! Big price difference but I’ve ordered the correct one and hopefully that will fix things. Does that switch throw up these codes do you know, I’m worried it might be something else, thanks so far you’ve been brilliant 😊

I am no expert at all, just somoeone who bought a Superb that needed some TLC and I've been learning along the way.

I would say that these codes are related to that switch. Park/neutral switch is that one definitely. The communication TCU is likely impacted by this cabling as it will be a communication route/connected to TCU/ECU/other control modules.

Im surprised the wrong one would physically fit. I thought they were related to what selector you had more to do with how it mounts. (White top/black top switch) There is also 2 versions of the white one, one with and without "A" at the end of the part number.
