Hi everyone, I am going to change the oil and filter. Model is a 1.5 SE DRIVE TSI S-A, can you recommend a good oil please.

You could always check on the opieoils website to see which "weight" or options of "weight" of engine oil you could use to start with.

I'd think that it will be a 0W-?? that will be suggested so that you can retain the emissions and fuel economy that the manufacturer quoted - but then maybe you'd rather go for slightly better protection and so aim for a 5W-30 oil.

It might depend on what sort of annual mileage you typically do in this car, for years I've stuck with Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 which is an oil that claims to a bit more tolerant to LSPI which many modern DI petrol engines can end up suffering from probably due to slight misuse - but there again my cars are not brand new, don't have variable oil pressure control and have not been marketed to be used with 0W-?? engine oils.

The recommended oil by VW / Skoda for a 1.5 TSI ACT since 2018 is VW 508 00/ 509 00 so 0w 20 FS IV............ Not VW504 00 / 507 00 , 0w 30 FS III or 5w 30 FS III. PS. Personally it matters not if from ASDA, TESCO, COMMA or anyone else as long as to spec and from a trusted supplier. Nothing special from CASTROL and UK dealers get from TPS Fuchs oil / Quantum.

Thanks for the replies. I have just rang my local Skoda dealership and they recommended 0W-20 LL IV. At 10K per year, probably a little wasteful to change oil twice a year, unless only ever running less than 5-10 miles every trip - annual changes would be fine.

I wouldn’t bother doing it every 5k - it’s not remotely a performance engine and with newer oils, you get a fair bit longer before degradation.

I just use the standard C5 0W-20 in mine. I spent a fair while thinking about swapping to 0W-30, before realising it didn’t really matter and I wasn’t really bothered. As long as you’re using decent oil (Millers, Castrol, OE, whatever), you’ll be fine.

Just a comment from personal experience:-

I contacted my local Fuchs oil sales rep as I had considered buying a "suitable/correct" oil for my cars, but from a aftermarket brand that were known to use Fuchs as their source, the question I (naively) asked was "is ***'s product ABC the as your Fuchs XYZ ?" and the answer that I got was that the additive package that they use in customer's oils is closely matched to the area of the market that they are selling into - ie price dependant.

So I think that that answered my question/suspicions concerning aftermarket brands when comparing them to main stream oil brands.

^^^ VW are the masters of screwing down the cost to them, and never knowingly 'over spec' consumables.

If its any help I have been using comma oil for years from tractor/forklifts to fabia/octavia and many more cars. Never had a problem and it lasts. Generally a reasonable price and readily available.

^^^ & they do Premium, Performance & Racing car oils as well as perfectly good regular oil.
