My handbrake has been quite stiff the last few days, on applying.

No rear sticking calipers.

Can it be adjusted/slackened slightly?

Any advice welcome.

Not sure on the suberb but on my octavia the handbrake mechanism on caliper was stiff and making it difficult to pull handbrake on. No sticking calipers but only one side was working properly. It could also be a failing handbrake cable thats got corosion inside and seizing. Get someone to pull handbrake and make sure the rear calipers mechanism and cables are moving and returning freely. You can adjust the handbrake to take up stretching etc but doubt it would help with the stiffness.

I have never fitted a new handbrake cable, looks a bit daunting.

My Octavia was doing something that sounds very similar, except both sides were actually functioning correctly, just kinda gritty feeling from the driver's position. While hunting around I got to the rear ends of the cables and worked a few sprays of WD in there, followed by a few drops of clean engine oil. The cable ends point upwards, which even with a rubber boot is rather inviting crud to get inside. Assume similar on the Superb

Seems to have worked, at least for now, all as quiet as one would hope and the handbrake is still grand.

If it is the caliper handbrake mechanism I removed lever and soaked in penetrating oil then manually operated and wound piston back in and repeated till it moved freely. Lasted for a while but eventually happen again. I replaced caliper which was around £30-00 from parts in motion.
