Dash cam

Featured Replies

Hi i am looking for a dashcam for my Kodiaq that will record when the vehicle is stationary, I've done some research and apparently it can be connected to the OBD port to be permanently powered and won't affect the battery, has anyone had any experience of doing this?

Makes me wonder where the camera would draw it's power from?

Welcome to the forum.

I understand that it's not a good idea to leave anything permanently plugged into the OBD port.

OBD port power is sourced from the vehicle battery - so battery will be affected.

Even very small unexpected current draws are capable of upsetting the smart alternator charging system.

Ok thanks, I won't be doing that then.

If I hard wire the dashcam to the fuse box as another option firstly would it affect the car warranty and does the Kodiaq have spare ports in the fuse box, also is it an easy job like just plug in?

A piggyback fuse holder on the 12v power socket fuse is probably the best place, I would think a very low risk of voiding the warranty, it would have to be proven that what you did caused the malfunction.
