Power steering problem?

Thanks for that Denis , that saves me having to ask them to their face what is going on , as they have not told me what the score is! AFAIK they had a 2 yr deal from Skoda to be service and repair dealers after they stopped being a full sales dealer , and have just not renewed that deal.

. at the minute the power steering fluid has been topped up and it is bliss to drive i never realised just how bad the steering was!

Thats true , I felt exactly the same when they topped mine up! It just goes to show how easy it is to get used to faults with a car , and drive round them accordingly!

I haven't been rung up to say my new sensor is in... :( Is the backlog at Skoda / VW main parts really that bad for these sensors?

I dont know , I need the whole rack , so my sensor will probably give up the ghost next week...lol

the dealer i went to actually had the sensors in stock so they must get people going there often with sensor problems

Just to update , and for anyones info if they are getting a power steering rack for a Fabia through their dealer , my total bill was £677.56p , and of that Labour was £186 , the rack was £298.26 , the rest was made up of odds and sods , and the dreaded VAT (£100.91) Not a cheap fix , I only hope I dont have to do it again , you never know I might still have this Fabia in 6 years time....:)

yep mine is all fixed now too! at a total cost of £550 not nice handing over that much money but it needed to be done and it been great so far.

Mine is at the garage (Skoda dealer) awaiting the out-of-stock sensor that they "hope" will fix the problem, failing that they "think" it's the steering pump... so there are a couple of issues here.

Firstly if it isn't the sensor, would I be in my rights not to pay for it, only for the repair that fixes the problem.

Secondly, a power steering sensor was replaced 2 years ago. Assuming it's the same one, is it unreasonable for me to think it shouldn't have failed again already so I shouldn't have to pay? If so, do I take it up with the garage or Skoda?

Parts have a 12 months warranty on them.

Well they can't get the sensor anyway. Presumably demand is outstripping supply.

Still, they're well trained, try as I might I couldn't get him to admit to it being a known or common problem.

The sensor arrived yesterday. Hooray!

Shame it was for a left hand drive. And Skoda tell them it'll be the 13th before they can get any more.

On the 14th I'll have to complete a SORN as I can't tax the car due to the MOT expiring.

I am not happy. People go on about "oh you can't get parts for Rovers" but I've never had a problem, and that's for a model that finished production in 1999 from a company that's bust.

Bah. I feel a snotty letter to VAG coming on.

We had a sensor in stock today, I fitted one.

I ended up getting one off a chap on Ebay. :) Not sure where / who he works for but he gets genuine Skoda stuff.

Correct sensor arrived - hooray!

Didn't fix the problem, needs a new pump - boooo... :thumbdwn:

Anyone want to buy an arm and a leg? :(

Get the car back Saturday... in exchange for

£920 ?, holy cr*p , dude thats rough! I hope you have no more probs after forking out that much....

The power steering warning light keeps appearing on mine and it's getting more frequent now. It was just every few months but now its every few days. When it's on the power steering doesn't work, if I switch off the ignition and restart the car the light goes out and the power steering returns.

My dealer has looked at it twice now and no fault codes are recorded?!!. Is it likely to be this sensor people mention?.

PAS pumps for Fabia are often on Ebay. I would consider 2nd hand if its going to be that much to swap!

i Have a PAS pump for sale - PM if interested.

just to let you know i got sensor from ebay and got the garage (skoda...newton abbot) to replace it which they did for 50 quid. No problems as yet but early days as problem...flickering lights steering fault light coming on dodgy steering only happened occasionly so too early to tell if has cured the problem will let you know

Good old IML. but seriously, I could have changed that steering sensor in under half an hour (even ME) having seen my PAS sensor get changed. Fiddly bit is routing all the wiring really.

so did the trick for you then.....your travels went well?

travels went fine - done a good 3000 miles already on the new sensor and it was only swapped less than a month ago....

Picked up the car on Saturday... an hour later they had it back as the traction control and ABS lights were on. Lots of fiddling, they're unable to get their equipment to talk to the car, so now we have a courtesy car while they try to figure it out.

2 weeks since it all started...
