Power steering problem?

Featured Replies

HI all , Does anyone know of a possible fault with tha power steering on a Fabia? Mine just doesnt feel right , and Im not sure if i am imagining it or not! I have no light on the dash (it comes on as normal on start up) but when doing tight turns whilst braking it feels as tho there is very little assistance , the steering goes really heavy , especially in an emergency stop type of situation. Any theories? I cannot fine a reservoir to fill it with fluid either , and the book is no help , i think the system is electro hydraulic.

i couldnt describe it any better my fabia is exectly the same and it is a 1.4 the same as yours. the power steering fluid is under the battery you need to take it out as well as the battery holder to get to it. let me know if you find the problem as it really annoys me:mad:

Cheers , done a search , looks like a trip to my friendly dealer is called for , either that or a sneaky trade in at some unsuspecting garage...hahah!

did you have any joy in what the problem is?

As the other threads will say first step is to get the fault codes checked.

i have been searching through the forum and to me it is looking like it is going to be an angle sensor any idea how much this would cost if it is the problem?

£70 for the sensor.

About an hour or so to fit.

is it easy to fit, do you need any special tools?

No special tools as such, but you would need it on a ramp.

Can't get it in till monday so no news as yet , I was offered £2300 as a trade in against an 05 reg Colt CZT Turbo tho!

Sounds like a good offer, I like the look of the Colt Turbos.

Yeah ,

But once they know the power steering is gone - They ll change the price offered

Hoe much was the Colt?

I can tell you , check the fuses - check the fault codes - Look on Vag for someone in your area and read off the fault codes.

Also worth checking in the footwell behind the pedals to ensure the soundproofing hasn't got wrapped round the steering column shaft. Yes, may sound strange but it happens...

£70? Didn't realise it was going to cost me that much.... At least the shock won't be bad when I go the dealers to pick it up. They're on back order at the moment, so it'll be a wait. Mine's been on order for 7 days now.

They are also exchange, so expect a surcharge.

it looks like i will need to take it to a garage as i dont have access to a ramp and i wouldnt even know where to start anyway! i really dont want to take it to skoda as it will cost a arm and a leg.i have checked the fuses and the steering fluid as for fault codes i really dont have a clue what you mean. does this mean it needs hooking up to a computer to get a code that relates to a problem?

Yes

ok i have been on VAG-COM and i must be a bit thick because that stuff is way over my head! i have been doing google searches for power steering problems with the fabia and nearly everything i read said angle sensor so i thinki will have to take it to skoda (booooo!) so 1 last question before i start ****ing people off:

how much should i expect to pay for skoda to fit a new sensor, part, labour etc etc?

The answer to that is allready in this thread.

i wanted to know the total cost not just for the sensor but i know now cheers! i really dont know what to make of fabia's i think its a really nice car and it feels like good quality but you see so many problems with them.

I had mentioned the labour time, the total cost depends on where you take it.

You see alot of faults because your on a forum where people ask advice about problems etc.
