engine probs

Featured Replies

hi just joined, got 4 year old Fabia 16v 1.4. had probs with engine management light coming on with no other symptoms really, over 3 years car has semi stalled whilst moving, few weeks ago garage changed egr, no probs for a while then light came on again, then off, seems to come on for a day or so then go off. then whilst driving audible beeps, break fluid light, along with ABS light came on, diagnostics came up with lamda probe or ecu, cleared diagnostic clear till yesterday when engine management light came on during day then lastnight audible beeps, engine oil pressure light along with electronic stability light and engine died. restarted after while, now no warning lights!!!!! help!!!

Would be greatful if anyone can help with this as my local garage seems as stumped as me, what are symptoms of a dodgy ecu?? or anything else that could give all these problems?? Fix one thing and something else comes up!!

Kirsty

Sounds like a loose electrical connection to the instrument panel. Somebody might be along in a bit with a piccy.

Kirsty,

Hi.

Does your car use more oil than is perhaps normal? The reason I ask is my mother-in-law has a 2001 Fabia 1.4 and has had many cases of the engine light coming on over the last year or 2. We have recently been told that it's a known problem with the piston rings which are letting oil past and upsetting the engine management sensors.

Skoda are being unhelpful but I believe this is something that should be pursued as the car has done only 40,000 miles and it is not normal to expect to replace piston rings so quickly.

I would be very interested in emailing or talking with you (or anyone suffering the same problem) as I believe it effects a lot of Fabias made in '01/'02.

Please email me at [email protected]

There is a known problem with the engine bay wiring loom and water ingress on earlier Fabia cars. One of the symptoms is ABS warnings, oil pressure and various other engine/chassis sensor fault codes.

I also found this -

Sporadic flashing of ABS warning light accompanied by acoustic signal (16347)

On Fabia vehicles with the ABS unit (M-ABS)

Stu,

No the problem I'm concerned with is another known problem with oil control rings wearing prematurely letting oil past into the exhaust causing high oil consumption, many sensors getting clogged, cat damage - all triggering the engine light to illuminate.

If anyone has been told their fabia has this I would be very interested to talk (details above).

Martin.

That may be so but I was answering the original poster and not the hijacked post by yourself. You have started your own post which has been replied to.

Apologies Stu - didn't mean to 'hijack' the thread - I thought it was relevent as the symptoms described could equally be the piston ring problem but as you say it could also be electrical.

Martin.

It's not me to apologise to it's the original poster. ;)

Rest assured if someone know's the answer to your question it will be answered so don't take it personally if you don't recieve replies - That said people who contribute to the forum using the freedom system are obviously looked upon favourably so feel free to join us :D
