retaining personal registration plate

Featured Replies

hi all, i'm just about to retain my personal registration plate on my car but have become a bit confused at the DVLA form system as usual!

i need some help on how to go about retaining my plate and making sure the car gets a registration again so i can sell it... can someone please help who's done this before?

What forms do i need to fill in, and also what do i need to take with me?

p.s i'll be going to maidstone local offices to do this so no need for posting things off.

TIA

Dave

Hi did this last November and it's quite complicated. Look on the DVLA website for the relevant form (cannot remember which one). If you have not got another car to put the plate onto you can hold it in your name for a small fee.

If it goes on retention it's only for One Year. If you forget to re-new it you will loose the number. They will NOT remind you......Hope this Helps

And it costs £80......bloody rip off!

£105 to retain, then £25 per year thereafter.

i've looked on the DVLA site and its not helpful at all, it tells me about retaining the plate.... but what do i do once i've taken it off an already registered car?

pop into the local office, they will give you the form, copy tax disc, take copy and reg + form to office with cheque for £105 if it is going on retention. or £80 if you have the vehicle now you want to swap it to.

they will take paperwork, send it away, you will get a new reg for your car + tax disc.

bingo
