When I bought my 1st Skoda Octavia back in 98 it had a 3 year unlimited milage warranty, one of the best at the time.

Have just bought the 130PD Octavia but it only has a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty (or 2 years unlimited) a step backwards, yet the Hurungadungs have a 5 year u/m warranty.

Now I presume VAG build a better more reliable car than Hurungadung, so how can they do it? - they also seem to be selling a lot of cars (if you can call them that!)

Not necessarily a correct presumption however!

"Oriental" companies generally have pretty efficient manufacturing processes, so have lower overheads on. This keeps the price of individual components down, so it costs less to replace stuff (hence less of a risk per warranty claim).

Also, have you ever driven one? Even with a 5 year warranty I still wouldn't want to drive one, but some people are swayed by that sort of thing...

Haven't we harmonised with the EEC with the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, with Skoda UK underwriting the third year plus 3 year's AA cover? Buy a Skoda in India and you only get one year warranty - and that includes body warranty whereas we get 10 years!

its because thousands of taxi drivers bought them and ran up huge miles while still being under warranty

The largest taxi firm in Newcastle runs a load of Black Octavia diesels...they are almost like the official taxi firm of the city as they are based at the central station and have hundreds of cars..they run either the big London style cabs or the Octavia's

so blame the taxi drivers

My July 01 RS has the unlimited 3 yrs warranty. they changed it a few months after I took delivery. Was it really 2 1/2 years ago, guess it will be running out soon :(

The warranty changed wef 1 April 2002. My car was first registered on 25 March 2002.

Mine is Dec 01 so that also makes me happy :smileypul

Your right about driving them (hurungadungs), the gearbox was like porridge with stones in it, and it had interesting handling characteristics when going round bends, tends to solve constipation problems.

Also I think the warranty is personal to the 1st purchaser only!

i thought you could carry the warranty onto the next owner !?

i hope so cause i'm getting a second hand vRS soon (hopefully) and would like a longer warranty than the dealer will give me... 52/03 reg should have at least a couple of years left on it.

oh and while i'm thinking about it.

Yes, warranty is fully transferable. Make sure you get all the documentation and it should include a (IIRC) green leaflet which you send of to Skoda UK with your details on it.
