Good value spares

Hullo

I paid a visit to a local motor spares place today to enquire about braking bits and pieces, and they can do me FOUR Skoda brake pads for

Partco are one of the big third-party spares suppliers. Always worth a try. You won't always get OEM parts, but you should get equivalent quality. If you sound confident enough, you will get discount also. It's worth ringing up for a price first, as you will often be quoted a better price over the phone, and you can then say "... but I was quoted X when I called ...".

Edmunds Walker are another.

Welcome to the world of DIY maintenance, Jason :p

Cheers Nick

My car has reached that wonderful time in it's life when those bits that don't need replacing all that often, suddenly do - all at the same time. :D

I remember my company using Edmunds Walker for their fleet of vans a while ago, but seem to have not used them for a while now... wonder why?

I've been told brake discs/pads changing is quite easy so I shall attack them with at least two of my mechanically minded mates to supervise.

I mean last night, they had me removing the inlet manifold of a "blown" 4L Jag engine, and removing the power steering pump. Never had my hands so grubby!

Pads are a doddle Jason, just remember you need to take the wheel off first

As for discs, fairly straightforward too, assuming the little retaining screw (if fitted to Skodas?) hasnt seized.

Impact driver usually sorts that out ;)

My friendly local garage which has serviced my family's cars for some years now uses Partco for spares. Those supplied for my Senator were OEM but a fraction of Vauxhall's dealer prices, and likewise for a number of Peugeots we have owned. Partco also sold me a very nice (and accurate) dial-type tyre pressure gauge which has proved to be an excellent buy.
