cold blowing hot

Featured Replies

how bloody annoying, my cold air vent is blowing hot air all the time and my warranty expired last week...any ideas please as to how i can fix this on my own cause i`m bit tight to pay for this

Dan

Mine did it once, but turning the engine off and back on seemed to sort it. But I'd assume you've done that :)

if it's the same as the polo/lupo, there is a little cable attached to the back of the switch which controlls a flap which kind of diverts the air either from the fresh air duct or from the heater matrix or both. i've seen these cables break on a lupo and they are a right bugger to fix. half the dashboard has got to come out, but i dont know for sure. i've never seen behind the dash in a fabia before.

also my car does a similar thing, when the air-con is set to cold, somtimes after about 10 miniutes it momentarily gets really hot then goes cold again. any ideas anybody. i've got a feeling it's somthing to do with the thermostat opening/closing.

I've had this a few times when the battery was disconnected. Much like the windows' position not behaving itself after the same thing.

I've never had to get anything fixed by a dealer/garage for this (yet?).

* for the windows:

** open all the way, close all the way (both sides). Should reset the auto-up/down one-touch feature.

* for the heat setting:

** aircon on (dunno if that's needed, I just had it on)

** turn temperature setting to max hot. Wait for it to get hot (this assumes your engine has warmed up ;) if not just wait for say 30 secs).

** turn temperature setting to max cold. Should get cold after a while. Again I usually leave it there for about 30 secs. As your aircon is on it should get notably colder fairly quickly.

** Just set it to how you like it again.

Hopefully this will work for you, I'm sure there is a better way but this simple one seemed to work :D

Sounds like the flap motors to me.

You can try resetting them via vag-com, if not they need replacing.

Might be able to get it done under wty. It will be logged as a code.

More than likely just V68 temp flap has lost its position. As Stu says it will need resetting or maybe replacing.

Does your recirc stay on or does it switch itself off shortly after you press the button?

Mine turns itself off occasionally. 90% of the time it's fine. No consistent reason why it turns off when it does. I just assumed it was a ghost in the system :confused:

It's often an indication of the motors having a problem if the Recirc turns itelf off.

mine used to do this - got a new flap motor on warrantly which fixed it. It was probably the most annoying thing thats gone worng with mine, piping hot air constantly coming out - also it took several weeks and parts to diagnose and fix it.

I thought it was bad enough in winter, but it must be even worse if it happens in summer.... :(

Souldn't do, it's very obvious when you scan the codes what the problem is.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hmm I'm having the same problem on mine now. Randomly just throws hot air out even after I've been driving for a bit, all of a sudden it goes hot. Turning the fan off and changing the thermostat **** seems to sort it out.

I suppose a "stuck" valve could cause this. Stu, if you're still coming on Thursday, would you mind bringing your lappy for a quick vagcom check?
