fabia 1.4 8v

Featured Replies

Hi just got a 2001 fabia 1.4 8v comfort with 53000 miles , it appears to have a small flat spot/hesitation at low throttle settings , wondered if any one had come across this before or if it is normal for this model , also the tickover is slightly uneven at around 800 rpm on the counter ,.

Its averaging about 40mpg , it doesnt appear to be losing any coolant and the oil is clean and drives very well apart from this.

Would appreciate any advice or comments

Many Thanks Dave

Well my car averages around 800rpm when ticking over, not sure about your other Question though.........

Do you mean when pulling away from a stop on slight throttle? This is normal , its got something to do with the emissions regulations on modern engines. It took me a while to get used to it after coming from a dirty great Evo which would pull without any hesitation. Your idle does sound a little low tho , I will have a look 2morrow at what mine does , cant for the life of me think at the moment what it normally sits at!

Whilst accelerating on light throttle you can feel a slight hesitation , once the revs go above about 3000 its okay.

  • 3 weeks later...

I got same car X reg 2 weeks ago and it does exactly the same. I am also loosing coolant.

Hi

Mine's always started first go, but the instruction manual does say to rev it for a little while before setting off. In truth, I don't normally bother doing that, but blame it on myself if it stalls (or under-reacts) shortly afterwards, especially if low on fuel and certain temperatures, plus I've learned to leave the aircon, fan and radio (i.e. battery/engine drains) left switched off for a few hundred yards after getting going.

As said, it seems to be how it works rather than a fault (presuming all else OK).

Hope this helps.

it might be worth giving the throttle body a clean, they shouln't hesitate when pulling away.

Would they have cleaned my throttle body when I had mine serviced in June at a Skoda garage, please? Not sure, David Jackson, how yours has been serviced so apols for asking further question in your thread.

Would they have cleaned my throttle body when I had mine serviced in June at a Skoda garage' date=' please?

i very much doubt it! they generally do as little as possible when servicing cars. there is no set interval when they clean the throttle body, so they got no reason to touch it really.

Thank you Teflon Tom :) Info ogged into brain  Car going in for something soon, so will have an opportunity to look cool (i.e. know what I'm talking about). That'll be me then

Thanks, it might be that my throttle body has never been cleaned, from what you say  I shall not rest ;)

Thanks again

Thanks for the info , cleaned throttle body all okay.......Cheers

I sold my Fabia 1.4 8v in March and it had the "hesitate" thing too, I believe it was linked to emissions or sumut as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Also, he started leaking coolant about November, but only seemed to lose it significantly when the overnight temp was below zero for a few days in a row - odd or what? Thought it might have been the head gasket going, but I was gonna change the car this year anyway, so just kept him topped up once a fortnight and crossed my fingers hehehehe

Hez :D
