Warranty Question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have decided to purchase an Octavia vRS (Mk1) as my next car but I am having trouble locating one in my preferred colour locally.

My dealer has a red 03 plate one which I have driven but I am looking for a silver or black model, which leads me to the question.:)

According to Skoda's website there are models in various dealerships near me, the closest being 60 miles and while I am perfectly happy to travel for the purchase I am curious if the 12 month warranty offered on all approved Skoda's (according to the site details) could be maintained by my local dealership?

I have registered my details and specs with them, hoping that they could find me the car I want, only to be informed that the other dealers usually want full price to transfer stock so there's nothing in it for the local dealer as incentive  .

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

As I know exactly what car I want surely this shouldn't be made awkward by a warranty issue:confused: .

My only criteria is that it should ideally be an 03 or newer from a main dealer, silver or black, have less than 35000 miles (with FSH) and be a tidy standard example up to

I assume the warranty you are referring to is the 12 month one mentioned on the Skoda UK website under the "Retailer Approved Used Vehicle Programme".

In this case, I would think it is similar to a new car warranty, in that any approved Skoda dealer / repairer can do the work, but it might be worth giving Skoda UK customer services (or the dealers that have the car you want) a quick call to confirm.

That's the one and what I was pretty much thinking.

I emailed them yesterday about this but thought I'd ask on here too! (I would've rang but they shut at 6pm)

This is the first time I've dealt with a dealer and at this price level so forgive me missing what may be obvious.

Its not obvious - and well worth checking!

Any warranty should be looked at carefully

You will see that if a part fails it could be down to "fair wear and tear"

So look out for that.

Coolant temp sensors and things like that could be down to "fair wear and tear" so be carefull

I recently spoke to my Horners dealer where i bought my car... Due for service very soon, it's been remapped (they don't know) and it's been playing up a little. I thought the Air Flow Metre.

VAG-COM has been on it and i know it's got a dodgy coolant temp sensor.

On speaking to the dealer he said "you warantee cover all sensors and little things like that" (i was pleasently surprised) then he told me "I'm pretty sure your Air Flow Metre is covered too" (nearly wet my pants with exctiement.)

If you want them to keep not knowing its probably best to edit your post mate, SUK are active on here which has bitten members in the bum before

I'm actually looking at a september 04 vrs in the next few days (all being well) which if it's as advertised (i.e clean and not scuffed in or out etc) then it will be mine

As it's less than two years old it still has a year's warranty on it which the dealer informs me will cover "everything mechanical", engine, gearbox, sensors etc.

Basically anything that's not just normal wear and tear like brake discs, pads etc.

If it all comes off I'll have a year to put everything through it's paces and test the warranty if required!

They have so far managed to keep me happy with the service so hopefully it will all pan out ok and I'll be another happy vrs owner :)

And just for the record, I won't be playing with mine until it's well out of warranty!!
