What Motorbike?

Featured Replies

Another possibility for a toy is a motorbike...

Assuming I get around to passing my test, what would be a good first one?

A mate has a Fazer 1000, but that's a little excessive

a Supermoto appeals to me, but a proper hardcore one would probably be a bit uncomfortable.

I've always liked the idea of a 400 sports bike too.

I`ve been riding bikes for years, a good bike to buy once you`ve past your test would be a 600cc, as it`s got plenty of power which won`t scare you but a great way to get used to speed before you go onto anything bigger.

I would recommend a Honda CBR600

Yamaha Fazer 600

Suzuki SV650

i've never ridden a bike...but purely on looks, i love the cbr600rr

If you fancy a supermoto then a Yamaha XT660 would be cracking fun and with replacement exhausts they sound fantastic.

For something a bit more conventional suzuki SV650s are nice and pretty easy to get on with (ditto for a bandit 600 or a hornet 600 like the one I have now) and if you want a sports bike then you wont go too far wrong with a Yamaha Thundercat.

If you fancy a Motard (Supermoto) I would steer clear of the hardcore stuff m8, pic below of my old VOR530 - very hardcore :-) Kick start only and a bitch to start unless you got the knack

Supermoto wise I would say;

MuZ Bagheera Black panther (660 yamaha engine great value at under

The 600 Bandit does look good.

I thought real bikers laughed those heavy things?

I was thinking more like this:

Are 400s like the old FZR or VFR still made?

That Z750 looks VERY good.

XR650R

Kick start only m8, easy to start once jetted correctly and you have practised a bit. They are converted enduro's, not Supermoto "styled" out of the crate.

I know of one XR650R that had 6 owners in 16 months, all sports bike riders who jumped on the supermoto craze, wanted a "substantial" motard and went for converted XR's. They then stalld a few times at the lights, had to push it off the road and commence the kick start ritual ...... which soon wore off :-)

Supermoto's, Biking in it's rawest form, but it WILL turn you into an anti social white van man on two wheels once your into them :D :D :D

That Z750 looks VERY good.

I had a Zed for a while when I took a bit of time out from Sports Bikes ......

Looks nice in black though

Honda CBR600 or a Kawasaki ZXR600 would be a good choice, nice and easy

to ride with enough room for most.

I ride a ZZR1200 but that would not be a good bike to start out with.

They stopped making the VFR 400 around 92-93 and replaced it with the RVF 400 and stopped making that around 2001' date=' used to own a mint one but if your any taller then 5"10 you will be cramped on it, they do make a VFR 800 now tho![img']http://www.triumphchepassione.com/honda/vfr_800_vtec/honda-vfr-800.jpg[/img]

For your first bike i'd go for the Hornet 600

I agree, Hornet 600 is a perfect first bike, all the power you'll need and plenty of aftermarket bits to your own taste. I've had 3 of them and every one has been brilliant:thumbup: Typical Honda. Mind you on saying that, i've got a CBR600RR, which is just as easy to ride, if a little bit uncomfortable. Any modern sportsbikes are alot easier to ride than they used to be, so dont be put off by the BHP and top speed figures as its YOUR right hand that determines how fast the bike goes. A Hayabusa will happily ride along all day at 70mph:) Not that you'd buy a Hayabusa to pootle about at 70mph allday!!:P

I have a nice VFR400 for sale.

Low mileage too

Beautiful bike

M plate for £2k

Full MOT and just been serviced

I had a NC30 then a Z750. Z750 is a perfect starter bike. Easy to use, but has a very useable power range. Thing is, I ended up uprating the entire brake system, Ohlins front and rear, and it would pretty much have all the 600 sports bikes on a TD.

Good fun, and very cheap.

I've had Blades,YZF, bandits and a Firestorm and i would say the most fun i had was a a Husky 410TE Enduro, quick around town, cheaper to run and you can do a bit of green laning. Big sports bikes are just too fast, if i decide to upgrade from my Gilera scooter, then i will get a supermoto.

If considering a motard, www.supermotech.co.uk is a great site, lots of motards for sale, it's run by Emma Wheeler, a motard racer.

your probably on Visordown, but just in case www.visordown.com the supermoto forum is full of usefull info and bikes for sale

Why not?

I don`t like them because they shafted Charlie Boorman and Ewan McGregor on there round the world trip.

KTM said that they would fail and they don`t there bikes to be know as failers. So stepped in BMW and they did it.

I do agree, KTM must be kicking themselves now, BMW have had loads of good press. The BMW are probably better built and more reliable anyway. But i'd still like a 640 Supermoto.

I test rode a GS1200 and loved it, but a bit to expensive for me.
