Superb in trouble?

Featured Replies

I don't agree on the leasing costs the comparable car to lease vs my PD130 Comfort was a PD 100 S Passat.

Drove Hull to London and back this week, Passats seen 3682,(ok i made that up but you get the gist) Superbs, 0(not made up)

At one point I passed a line of 6 BMW 3 series, is the world going mad?

Had the car a year now, no regrets but still jibes. A colleague of mine has a BMW 316 compact with wheel trims and no air conditioning (remember our cars are our office), I know who made the right decision.

I'd agree with that PD130 Superb Comfort was

Loads of Superbs up here. My dealer actually claims in promo material that they sell more sup[erbs than any other dealer in the country (where that is the UK or Scotland it's unclear). Certainly true the private hire boys love em although the OPctavia has the edge being a hatchback.

Yes, *you* get less car for your money, but the lease company know that a Passat will hold it's value reasonably well, and will sell easily after the lease. Therefore, most will only offer the Passat, as the Superb hasn't been around long enough to see how it will perform over a 3 year period...

Rob.

Might it also have something to do with volume sales ?. Although your tax is calculated on the retail price (I think) the leasing companies will pay nowhere near that figure, add this to the amount they buy then the Superb doesnt even get a look in.

Mate of mine wanted to have the Superb, but had to get a Passat - the Superb costing more to lease

As has been said before, must be due to depreciation.

Don't understand that - What Car? lists sample lease costs for most cars, and the Superb is a lot less then the Passat. Some lease companies always cost more for some cars than other lease companies.

Take a look here, for Lex prices

The Superb PD130 Comfort is

Rob, I'm not sure I understand the point you're making.

When I'm due a car I receive a list with hundreds of cars on it within my allowable leasing price range. These prices allow for purchase, depreciation, servicing, tyres etc. If the car you want is at the right lease price you can have it, I don't pay the lease cost( I do pay company car tax) The leasing company have already assessed their chance of being able to sell the car and it's future value. Therefore my point is that most company car drivers in a Passat S 100PD could have chosen a Superb Comfort 130PD.

If the Skoda depreciated more than the VW the Skoda would have a higher lease cost, but the opposite is true; Skodas are cheaper to lease than VWs.

Maybe from your lease company...however, a lot of lease companies will price the Superb higher (as posted above), or just simply won't offer it, preferring to stick with VW.

When the Superb was released, it was a totally new model in the Skoda range, so there would be no accurate way a leasing company could calculate costs on it. Furthermore, it's an executive car from an unexecutive company - agreeing to buy a significant number to secure a discount and then have everyone choose a VW would be a really bad business move.

I suspect the Superb will appear more and more on lease companies lists, and a lower price, as it has proved to be a good performer. But the reason there won't be many Superbs on the road is because it is still proving itself, so most lease companies are sticking with Passats in the meantime...

I would disagree, the reason you wont see many Superbs is that company car drivers in general simply will not accept the badge.

Also the I wouldn't call the Superb an executive car, it's Passat (rep's car) with a 10cm stretch. Executive is 5 Series or E class in my view.

Due to its size, I have seen the Superb listed as excutive as well as large medium.

Apart from the badge snobber aspect, the main difference is simply volumes. VW produce more Passats in a week than Skoda do Superbs in a year.

Maybe it looks too much like a Rover? :innocentsmiley:

How can it....it has no resemblance to a BMW :D .

Of course..the only Skoda that resembles a Rover is the one known as the Red Baron..eh Des ;)

A seemingly insignificant but in reality a very important announcement - which is the Dutch car magazines picked up on it as a mere "detail change".

The MY2005 Superb will get folding split rear seats!

Now, wasn't them not being there before the main reason for not having a Superb Estate? :D

Superb Estate for MY2006 anyone? ;)

Mattijs, you heard it here (clicky) first! :P

So from rumour to fact... ;)

And those Tiptronic 'boxes are a free ( ) option in Holland now!
