Greets from a nervous newbie. . .

Featured Replies

Greetings all, nice community.

I've recently bought a Fabia 1.4 and I'm crapping myself about whether it was the right decision or not. . .

Let me explain. . my last car was 2 litre calibra and it was fast as hell but stupidly expensive to keep going. I have replaced virtually all of it and it still wasn't right. . the insurance and tax were crippling and well frankly it was way too fast for the roads. I ride motorbikes as well and plan on doing many track days in the future, the safe way to speed.

My other half recently bought a vRS and it is a fantastic car, and as much as I would have loved one I just couldn't afford it, or really justify it so yesterday I took the plunge and went for an 8v 1.4 2001 (although some insurers, from the plate have stated the records show it is 100bhp one, but I think this is incorrect.) I took it for a long test drive and it did everything I wanted it to, it was comfortable, sat at 80, accelerated reasonably ok, had lots of room and a towbar for my bike trailer. Full dealer history and 45k on the clocks. the insurance came in at over half the price of the cali. It looks quite nice too and the price was right.

The dealer gave me an excellent part ex price on my cali and also booked it into the body shop to have the stone chips repaired and a door clunk from an inconsiderate parker next to it. So I went for it.

I'm 95% convinced it is the right car, I just can't run the calibra and two bikes. . . but still theres a niggling 5% doubt somewhere in the back of my mind . . .

Anybody have experience that will settle the 5% doubt :)

Beers on me!

Hello :wavey:

If you bought it cos you were happy with it, then I guess you're doing what we all do when we've paid out some money  I have a Fabia 1.4 8V and it's fine by me if that helps.

If it does what it says on the Tin , doesnt cost a fortune to run, and is just what you wanted, then REALAX, you ve bought the right car .

These little furbys are proving to be rock solid & reliable according to most of the car mags that have looked at 2nd hand ones, just look after it, and it should look after you :)

Would the niggling doubt be- Its not as fast as the Cali OR this appears to good to be true ? :D

Hi, and welcome

Sounds like you made a wise decision.

HELLO Great car you have there

I think It is, this is the slowest car I have ever owned, am i going to hate it. Still it is a sacrifice I have to make for the CBR600rr. . . I keep telling myself. . .

Plus I guess I we have a vRS as well, just have to sell the o/h house so it can be on the "shared" drive :)

Hello and welcome.

Look at it this way, you have the Fabia 1.4 for the practical money saving side, and the CBR and the other half's vRS to satisfy your 'need for speed'. Win, win situation hopefully.

hi kara .... with the sounds of it u only use a car as wet weather vehicle so yes right choice ... yes vrs would have been nice but then again u got the bikes for speed :)

The "125" test is quite easy however once you pass your restricted to 33bhp for two years. . . . however sometimes the restrictors fall out. . . . :) bikes are great fun, but mostly pointless on the roads imho the track is where it's at!

I'd say you've done the right thing. You've still got a fast toy, and access to a vRS, which is a far far better car than any V**xh*ll I've ever driven (I don't count a Lotus Carlton as a V**xh*ll).
