Shell Diesel Extra

Featured Replies

Anybody tried it and what are your thoughts?

I am asking as it has usually been Esso or BP that I haved filled up with and recently felt the car shaking/vibrating while stationary.

Since putting this in (almost by accident (the only free pump) it was the only diesel there so I thought what the hell and it was 2p a litre cheaper than BP and Esso) the car has seemed to be smoother.

Tried all manner of diesels and done so for 3 consecutive tanks. No noticeable difference in economy, performance or smoothness across any of my diesels :D Biodiesel did make a small difference to smoothness but cost soon put me off that!

It's all the same.

Loads of threads on it. The tankers all come from the same depots. All the "additives" are added on distribution to the fuel station.

I have never noticed any difference running on Extra or Ultimate.

Save you money and fill up where it's cheapest. If you can get BioDiesel at a reasonable price it is worth running it. It's smother, slightly less smoggy and when you get a new fuel filter you get a bit more power.

I get diesel Extra if I can, and I get 2-3 mpg better, less smoke too.

No idea if it's placebo or not, but as I'm paying 99.9p/liter for it vs 100.9p/liter for standard BP, it's not a hard choice..

Tried the premium petrol in motorbikes and the difference definately was noticeable.

Tried premium diesels though with no discernable effect though so now using supermarket stuff.

Try adding Millers Diesel Plus instead, that does seem to have quite an effect. Car seemed much smoother, easier revving, torquey lower down. Spun the car into the armco a few weeks into using it though so didn't have time to see if MPG had improved :-(

I think Shell diesel extra is good stuff. Tends to be not much more than supermarket fuel, go for it.

Unfortunately it will invalidate your warranty if there is an engine fault and Skoda find it.
