de-cats

Featured Replies

when i got my car remapped a while ago i was told at the time that my car couldn't be de-catted as the ecu was a newer type and would have a hissy fit if i tried.

lately i have found the desire for a decat, i'm just wondering if there is infact a way around the sensors in the exhaust letting me have a de-cat fitted whether its by cheater kits or getting the cat mapped again and the sensor turned off for want of a better description in the ecu.

mines a 2001 1.8T :)

Bengie mate;

Firstly, wos a "hissy fit"?

Secondly, wos a "cheater Kit" ????

Turdly, re-mapping the cat

The only way I'm told is to get a spacer to lift the sensor out of the flow path.

I understand, it can't be programmed out. :(

I'm still getting the warning light come up on the dash, (VAG.Com - Clear Fault Codes, Clear Fault codes ,,,,,,,) hence the order to the geezer in the US of A for the spacer.

You can decat the car it will run fine. No-one can map out the CEL you will just have to live with it - it doesn't degrade performance. :)

lately i have found the desire to make my car even noiser inside

 ;)

If anyone wants a spacer made, I can arrange to have Wayne's copied at minimal cost.

compaired to before it's damn quiet now - most of what he assumed was coming from the exhaust seems to have been coming from the bearing/joints/whatever that he replaced

Both Custom-Code and Revo can map out the 2nd lambda probe to stop the CEL after a decat, I expect others can too.

The cheater kit also works with some success, StuartJ has my old one and I've passed the details on where to get them from to a few folks on here.

Is the "cheater kit" not just a set of glorified washers ?

No.

It's a threaded block that rotates the lamda probe 90* from standard. It's also not guaranteed to work on a fully decatted car but may increase the time between required resets. It totally cured my CEL though when running the blueflame 100cpsi cat. Having the problem cured within the remap will allow for no-cat without problems.

How much are they? Seems a waste of time importing them from the US when I can get them made here.

Around $35, I think the guy that makes them posted up CAD drawings as he does them to help folks out rather than to make a profit.

Well if someone can find a drawing I'll see what I can do if anyone is interested.

Useful, but sadly no sizes. I can have a look when under the car next time but that wont be for a while.

Do you have an email address for the guy who is making them?

Not to hand I'm afraid, Wayne Kerr has it though.

surely the only required measurement is the thread of the sensor as all threads will match that and the body only has to be big enough to incorporate the sensor :)
