Octavia vRS TDI 170BHP

Featured Replies

:) Hi all this is my first posting hope it isn't to boring - 3 weeks ago I used, belatedly, one of my 60th B/day presents - a Ferrari 430 Experience day at Thruxton. This included drives in a Mazda RX8, Mercedes SLK the Ferrari 430 and finally a single seater Formula Renault. I'd forgotten what it was like to drive a car fast, since my early retirement a few years ago I've been extremely cost conscious and as a result had 2 LPG conversions first on a 1999 Astra and my last (current) 1600 Focus(and I must say I have really enjoyed both of them). Anyway the exprience was such that i came away thinking that it had been the best B/day present I had ever had and I must have a faster car!!!!!!!!!!!. Initially thinking was geared to the Mazda RX8 but that was much to heavy on fuel, bear in mind I'm retired, so i started looking at some reviews on the web.

As a result I took a test drive in the Octavia vRs petrol - fantastic!! I then discover from Joe my Skoda dealer sales guy that a diesel version is due out next month -which would better accomodate my concerns on the fuel consumption front, so I took a drive in a TD Octavia and was convinced that the vRS TDI was the answer. This had been my first experience of a TDI of any kind - different to driving a Petrol engine, so I've got a bit to learn there. Anyway the outcome of all this pre-amble is that i ordered an Octavia vRS (in RED) last Saturday - due for delivery i the 2nd half of September (I hope). Has anyone else ordered one yet or could I have the first one on the road in the UK????

I think you are one of the first people I've heard of on here to order one.

There's a lot of people who will eagerly await your review.

If only. The main point to remember with a TD is that you only need about 2/3 of the revs you'd use with a petrol engine.

Your the first I've heard of ordering one - as mentioned, we will eagerly await your review!

I'm sure it will be an excellent vehicle and a good comprimise between power and economy.

I'm thinking about one myself, but would want to test drive fist. I like the handling of the new Octavia petrol vehicles but the diesel might be a bit different with it being more front heavy.

Good luck to you - I wish I was getting one.

My TDI octavia is the first experience I have had of diesels (apart form an old/ slow escort van) and it has been great.

I am every day continually astonished by an average 52MPG I get out of it whether driven fast or slow.

I first saw the light when my mate took me for a spin in a renault diesel TDI - we were doing a ton (on a private road of course) and had little over 3000 revs on the counter. Also it had amazing acceleration between 60 and 100. I would love the new vRS Octavia - good luck - it sounds great and looks the part too.

Who's your dealer? Mine says he cant get them till mid October -

Welcome to the site.

If you look back you will prob find that you are the 2nd person i have seen who has sadi that they are getting the vRS TDi beginning of Sept.

Welcome and good luck with the new car there!

I went on a lotus exige experience at thruxton earlier this year - did 18 laps (14 driving myself) and then drove the f430 for 3 laps too (blue convertable one), easily the best day of my life (and best birthday pressie for my 30th!)

Definately made me more aware of car control in corners and braking etc, nicely prepared for the mk1 vrs I recently bought :o)

Matt

 Well I've got it - see the first posting here!! After 2 months of waiting I picked it up from Freeborns in Southampton yesterday. It's looks gorgeous in Corrida red - for me definately the colour for this car. I've never had a diesel before so that is going to take a bit of getting used to (pulling away in first is the worst part!!). I've driven about 50 miles so far, not pushing it as i do like to run my cars in for a thousand or so miles - having said that the immediacy of power to overtake on e.g non dual carriageway A roads is stunning even without flooring it. The firmness of the ride and comfort of the seating are excellent. My last car was an LPG converted Focus, the difference is like your proverbial chalk and cheese - having retired some years ago I wanted low running costs, but with just one day of the VRS who cares its only money!!! Having said that the fuel consumption figures in the brochure auger very well (but can anyone tell me why diesel is now 4 or 5p a litre more than petrol ??????????) Anyone got any questions????? :)

I've not seen running in recommendations for VAG, but the recommendation for a Citroen diesel was "do not exceed 4_000rpm for the first 1_000 miles", with a mechanical governer set at 4_600 rpm or so, and a fuel governer starting to cut the fuelling back at ~3_800, plus usable power from maybe 1_500, it wasn't much of a hardship.

As for the price of diesel, "Greedy Gordon" sets the duty on it higher than on petrol, to partially compensate for how much less of it we use! ;-(

Nice one. Enjoy the car, and get some pictures of it when you can!

U R correct red is a very fetching colour for the vRS

Enjoy the new car.

You've changed your tune haven't you?

Octy 2 vRS and the colour of ours is???

Tried a diesel VRs today, Corrida Red and it looked the dogs, I was very impressed, although after my DSG it took some getting used to, first gear runs out very quickly, as a matter of fact so did 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Power was pretty linear and not like the stories I have heard of all or nothing delivery.

Taz

You can lpg a diesel as well you know. ;) Just not in quite the same cost cutting manner as a petrol. :D
