How quick IS the Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

I think one of the things with the Fabia VRS is it doesn't stand out.

To those who aren't in the know (which is the majority of the motoring public out there) it looks like a bog standard Fabia.... therefore (especialy if tweeked) it has the element of suprise....

When I had mine I often left cars I knew were dam well were faster than the Fabia behind in a cloud of soot, the reason.... pure stealth, and if the drivers of the other cars were really up for it or prepared they would have left me for dead.... not just eased their foot down in the same gear thinking they could have easily seen off the little Fabia with alloys and a sort of rear spoiler...

I think its easy to get carried away by the fact the Fabia VRS has this element of suprise and start thinking its faster than it is (and I sure did at times, we all like to think our cars are the best and big them up) ....... yes its a quick little car but it ain't a Focus ST or the like.....

Just my reflections after a good 6 months without a VRS and driving a few other cars.

well said john, the other thing with diesels in general is they can feel fast due to the high torque figures but in reality possibly not that fast. :)

They can and that feelings great........ I'd rather have the buzz of that feeling rather than some uber refined high powered car that is very quick but as a drive dosen't feel that fast.... but like I said its easy to start kidding yourself about that feeling!

UPDATE EVERYBODY

The rumours of the Fabia being a Scooby Slayer are NOT - I REPEAT NOT TRUE.

Had a crack at one at ten o'clock last night on the way home from my mates house, and the bloke basically rubbed my face in it :-)

But, I did manage to keep up with him for a while, and when we got to the next set of lights, he beebed his horn and gave me a thumbs up!

Mental note to myself - NEVER RACE SCOOBIES! ;-)

A peugot 106 decided to race me today

I let it beat me

The skoda badge still seems to have some people thinking that we drive a pile of old tat

I wonder if the 106 driver will be telling people about how they burnt off a skoda:D

On a note here, I have a 1.3 GLi Felicia, and one day comming back from work in sherbourne a C*H*A*V and friend, pulled up along side me at the traffic light going onto the duel carridge way and they started shouting abuse at me, about my motor a the fact i am a fat b*****d, they were in a 1.0 Renault Clio, so I just stuck my middle finger at them and when the lights went green I matched them for speed and stay there until 3/4 of the way to Yeovil there is a slight hill, which dinky engine tend to struggle abit... I thought this will be the ideal place to leave them behind, accelerating off leaving them struggling up a hill seemed a little poetic in my mind and a good notice that not only can I beat them, I did it on a hill so I got to yeovil and a little later they eventually caught me up in the town center and they started shoutting W****r flashing there lights and flipping the birdy at me.... which though I do not race people due to crappy slow car, I found it funny that I beat them and they got all ****y with me.....

The morale of the story is, I like people thinking skoda's are rubbish..... because when you do beat them, it doubles the amount humiliation they have to suffer :D

I can be patient and I am willing to wait to the right moment to make someone feel like a idiot, I do this not only driving but in ALL life circumstances..... I blame it on the fact I am a little evil and take a certain amount of pleasure out of making a point hurtful and memorable. (Blame this attitude on the people who picked on me over the years)

Another boring post by...... Q

Um, similarly with Skylines :(

I am in a place right now that means I think my car is a flying machine, but even with my overinflated sence of importanct I can recognise when I don't stand a chance.

Don't race at all on the roads!

Drive at 5 mph below the speed limit and change gear at 1700 rpm when you have a boy racer up your rear. Far more satisfying. Keep it off boost for a few minutes then boost at low revs for the smokescreen effect.

Does it still count as a race when you have hardly moved from the traffic lights and he is about 300 yards away?

Racing was more fun in Vlad - Nobode noticed you were trying to go fast as breaking the speed limit was impossible.

I will have to eat my own words after a bit of a do with a Golf GTI (MK2) this evening :o

It was smoking more than my Fabia though.

I felt a bit like one of those predatory animals that pick the unhealthy animal lagging behind the pack.

I wonder if he will be telling his pals how he got out accelerated off a roundabout by a diesel skoda???

Hehehe

Also there was a 630i on the motorway, big heavy car for a 3 litre motor, but even so I had no chance as we came out of a 50 (roadworks) and pulled up to the speed limit (70) ! Used it as radar bait for a while though (it was 'making progress' let's say) staying about 0.5 mile behind
