How quick IS the Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

My Scooby and previous Nissan's have all been totally faultless :D I guess the Japanese are being corrupted by their partnerships with the French

But the CTR engine will never break apparently :)

The problem with the Top Gear survey is that it revolves around people's expectations. Skoda drivers will be very please if their can only[/i'] has a rattle from the dash.

And likewise with rating performance, handling, service costs, etc. It seems that for the majority of Fabia vRS drivers, the vRS is their first "grown up" car and so their frame of reference will be greatly skewed compared to people who have had a whole range of cars to compare it against ;)

They do when people don't check the oil regularly as serveral people on Honda forums have found to their cost.....

I will agree with this statement as I have had a test drive in a Furby VRS and I think it is a fast little number, but I have only driven a Polo 1.4, Pug 205 GRD and a Felicia 1.3GLi

So this statement is accurate enough, especially in my case. Also you can see in the stats pages of some car mags that the furby VRS is no real HOT HATCH, more of WARM HATCH. Though this is true, I still want a Furby VRS and is what I am saving towards. I feel personally that this car has enough there for myself and my driving style. I am no boy racer, as with previous cars to prove this, but I want a motor that looks nice and performs with a little zest, and to help me save abit on fuel. Which overall the Furby VRS is ideal suited to my needs.

In conclusion if you are worried or just curious to the performance of the VRS i say go to a skoda dealer arrange a test drive and see for yourself. My dealership was aware that i will not buy, but were none the less helpful and allowed me a test drive. If you are looking for a motor with the same reasons as I am, the Furby VRS is going to be a good choice, if not then you need to look else where for the true HOT HATCH.

I hope this helps those who are interested :D

Q

I'm driven a number of quick cars, including a Ferrari 348, Scooby WRX, original Audi Quattro, Clio 182 etc, and although the Fabia vRS is not as quick as any of those, it is definitely an excellent compromise between pace, handling, practicality & cost.

It's got a kick reminicent of the Scooby, it's got chuckability reminicent of the Clio 182, it's got the build quality of the Quattro, and it's available in red like the Ferrari.

It's not a performance car or a hot hatch, but it's quicker than an awful lot of other machinery on the roads. Is it right to consider the quickness of a car purely in objective terms, or should there be a subjective element to the comparisons?

Subjectively, the Fabster is A Quick Car. Objectively, it's not. The real question for me is... is it quick enough for me, and the answer is a resounding "yes!"

That has to be the most sensible thing a fabia VRS driver has ever said about the car.

I'd disagree with you twice on that one. It's an urban myth and whilst lots of people say it originated from Honda I don't think it did, or it's horrifically out of date.

Specifically they state that VTEC failures don't occur, but essentially it's a different profile cam so unless it wears out over 800000000000000miles it never will fail.

Funnily enough the CTRs don't stand up to abuse well if you abuse them properly.

I said exactly the same thing ealier in the thread more or less about the car

Subjectively it's like a space rocket for me!

High Build Quality

Low Depreciation

Low Insurance

Comfort

Low Tax

Underated - mix with the crowd

Low risk - no one wants to steal a skoda!

Tell that to the **** that had a go at my lock with a chisel of all things. :finger: Snapped the thing in half, need to fit a new one now. 3pm on a Sunday afternoon as well in a busy car park, left it alone for 15 minutes to come back to that.

Well it was in Ashington, so desperate is a pretty good description of that place. :D

One Briskoda member had his house broken into to steal his Octavia.

well ive driven quite a range of cars from mk1 golf to m3's and dont get me wrong the fabia is far from the best car, but for the money i would happily rate it above average. and juding by the amount of mature (old, there i said it) people currently buying Fabia vrs`s i think that statement could be bull ****

Or this demographic could be in the minority...

could this be the time for a pole?

Well alright I've seen a lot of interestin comments on here, but I liked the question is it fast enough for ME - I'd have to answer yes too.

I'm not one for going fast much, speed cameras, tickets etc.

BUT, when the gauntlet is thrown down by a 17 year old kid in a focus then I'd think it would only fair to let my fabia BITCH-SLAP him hard with its pimping hand!

Generally, I think its a well balanced car - though after driving it for a few weeks now I'm quickly realising that it just doesn't handle as well as my old Civic Sport.

But in terms of the FUN Factor, its gotta be 100%, and I'd rather be driving my Furby than my Civic any day!

OK, just for you ;)

a lot of people seem to be missing the point here, those of us that don't own fabia's aren't moaning about fabia owners saying they go quite well its all the stories of beating porsches/evo/scoobies/CTR's etc etc that annoy us.

its the people that need to learn when they have just gone flying by someone who didn't even realise they existed rather tha had an all out guns blazing race.

Shouldn't this be in a 2litre fabia thread??;)

not rally, this has been a problem for about 18 months at least :)

bit of a sweeping statement about Fabia VRS owners?

I think it's just a minority don't you think?

ah, I see your point Bengie

The drivers in the faster cars don't bother trying because they know that they'd win anyway - so whats the point.

It's the kids in the Focus's, Fiesta's, 206's etc that seem intent to race me whenever I pull up at a set of lights.

Example, a bmw m3 pulls up next to ya revving his engine - do you race? No, because he's just been beaten by some other car further down the road, and feels the need to make somebody else feel bad, so I don't give him the satisfaction.

A max'd 1.6 focus pulls up beside ya - do you race? Maybe, look for the smug grin on his face that tells you "I've got a nasty motor in this car that you don't know about" and let him proceed to roar away from the lights until he comes to a speed bump and rips the valance of his ride.

Finally, a kid in a Fiesta 1.2 - do you race? Yes, because one, they should have more intelligence than to go racing against a car that is clearly faster than thiers, and two, because maybe if you trounch them enough, you might just get the message through thier thick skull that just because they rev the noodles of thier car, it doesn't make it fast.

Oh, and a quick list of the cars I've beaten away from the lights that WERE trying!

Focus 1.6 and 2.0L

Honda Civic Sport (My old car - gutted)

Subaru Impreza 2.0L Sport (That's the non-turbo version)

BMW 318

Astra SRi

Quoting a fictional character from a famous street racing movie

"It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile - Winning's WINNING"

If drivers don't respect the Fabia's Pocket Rocket ability to give it thier all, then they DESERVE to be made a show of :-)

Ok Rant Over!!

with the astra sri it depends which one it was really

in the old shape they did 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 and in the new shape they also do a 170bhp 2.0turbo ;)
