How quick IS the Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

Just a question from a curious newbie here.

Just bought my brothers car, and out of interest looked up the specs on the web.

It shows something like 9.6 to 60 MPH.

My brother reckons though, even though it is stock, it's a lot faster than this, and is more closer to something like 8.5 seconds, maybe even less.

I haven't had a chance to drive my car properly yet, cos I've only had it a day, so I was just wondering, is this a common thing?

cheers guys

Re-mapped............................7 secs [ish]to 60

The other thing is that the factory specs show 130bhp - many new(ish) cars show a RR of 140+.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than mine :(

Ask Makefish   :P

I believe Emily has a unique description of how fast the Fabia VRS is :)

ooookkay!

My last car was a Honda Civic 1.6 Sport, and basically unless you rev'd the poodles noodles off it, it didn't perform.

This is going to be a lot different right, isn't there a rev range i've gotta keep it in or something?

Any tips guys? :-)

Any tips guys? :-)

don't go baiting the 2.0 fabia's as they go like bullsh*t off a shovel :)

what I found:) :

If you keep the ASR off (push-to-play button clearly marked) you get a tad more response.

Going above a certain rpm all you get is noise - experiment to find the best point to shift at.

To spare the clutch and tires, start off gentle in 1st and when in 2nd boot it and in third really boot it.:Yikes:

Check out popular upgrades - they are really worth it!;)

Any comments on my comments? Can I comment on the comments on my comments? etc etc:D

From a relative newbie myself, welcome to Briskoda! - there are some REALLY nice people on here, trust me.:)

Cheers:thumbup:

For the old-timers here, I'd also say ask DaveU from Brunters 2004 wrt Graeme's yellow fabia ;) Obviously left a profound scar in Dave's ego considering what he's done to his octy now :P

So, in layman's terms, for a diesel, they're pretty nippy.

Do a search for fabia vrs and 0-60 and you're bound to come across heated debates

also the thing to remember is that the quoted figure for 0-60 will be with a 50% payload.

I reckon they could easily pull out a figure of 8 seconds with just the driver.!

They are alot faster than stated

Faster than a 1.6 16v peugeot 206 XSI by alot

and faster than a 1.8 16v Focus Ghia buy just a bit

Privte roads of course;)

Privte roads of course

Which one?? The M.... ?

Which one?? The M.... ?
.....6 Toll is mine :D

Slower than a Mk1 Golf :D

They are pretty quick for what they are (a diesel supermini).

Compared to a VX220 or something, then no, not really.

Went out for a quick spin tonight, nothing too quick, well within accectable speed limits

Had a couple of irritated boy racers in thier modded astras and fiestas glaring at me when they tried tooutrun me... and failed miserably

tut tut tut, when are they going to learn? :-)

cheers for the feedback guys

. . . . boy racers in thier modded astras and fiestas . . .

Slightly OT, but you're reminding me of the car I always wanted Astra mk2 2.0 16v GTE . . oooh, 150 horsies and 900kg kerb weight. :D Not many decent ones around now.:(

Dreams and reality eh! :)

I had a metallic black one bought second hand when it was less than a year old. Never had so much grief in my life!

Stolen off the drive after six weeks but recovered with the usual damage (damaging another car just to get to it  ), constantly stopped by the Police  , constantly subjected to dangerous acts of jealousy and road rage  (none of which happened when I changed to a faster turbo Cavalier because no one knew about them!).

If the road wasn't dry you couldn't use the power (wheel spin and torque steer), the handling felt dangerous (although in reality it was only stupid mid-corner lift-off or understeer that was).

Mine, like many, had an untraceable fault (now easily cured) that meant the engine randomly revved the nuts off itself or stalled when you dipped the clutch (nice loosing power steering as you change down for a corner). The brakes weren't capable of stopping the car in one go from a 100mph (not that I ever did it officer). It had rust holes before it was two years old and the power-steering rack went a week outside warrenty.

To top it all, the press was full of summer riots and TWOCing and the insurance went stupid (like with Cosworths), so it became an uninsurable and near worthless car overnight!

Alright I admit it, I loved it and it was the most 'fun' car I ever had. :P

Things change, and now they are sort of retro-cool, but as you say most are heading to the scrap heap or 'maxed' with 300bhp tuned cav/calibra turbo engines.

:D Not many decent ones around now.:(

weren't any decent ones around then either

Npt as fast as a 2.0 fabia ;)

/Prepares for flaming.

only a bit quicker than a 1.8 focus..? how unimpressive :thumbdwn:

only a bit quicker than a 1.8 focus..? how un[/b']impressive :thumbdwn:

Well they have 123bhp and weight alot less. Depends on how you understand "a bit" to be?

A "bit of cake" to a fatty is half a cake,..... yes?

a "bit of cake" to a scrawny girl is a crumb!

now you see;) :D

you see a bit is actually alot! so yes it was impressive and my mates were stunned! (all on private roads and in safe conditions)

IMO, the Fabia vRS is nippy with a useful amount of performance, its by no means fast. It shocks me a bit when i read on here how people are nearly wetting themselves about the performance of the standard car... I'm picking mine up in just over 2 weeks but but I'm under no illusions about the performance.
