Hi!

Hi, I've been lurking here for a while but I thought that I really ought to post now that I've picked up my new Fabia vRS (thanks to Dave and Anthony at Simpsons for making it a bit more affordable) and driven it home. Naturally, I've got a big smile on my face and I really can't wait to get the engine loosened up so I can start overtaking things! The car I drove on road-test had done 24,000 miles and it felt much quicker than mine, so I'm hoping it was just down to it being loose and it wasn't a chipped/remapped 'demonstrator special'.

There is a little 'stutter' just between 1800 and 2000RPM, but it sems to disappear when the engine warms up and on the M6/A14/A11 coming home it was completely absent.

And, under completely normal driving conditions, I got 57 MPG over 240 miles which is staggering as I wasn't hanging about (although I was advised to only use 75% of full throttle for the first 1000 miles).

Hi, and welcome

I've done just shy of 600 miles now. My daily commute is a 30 mile run on narrow A roads - I got the vRS as I thought I might be able to overtake a bit better, and I was looking for better economy than my old Peugeot 407SW 136 HDi. Well, pretty much anything with broken white lines down the middle is now a viable passing place and I've averaged 72.4MPG on the first tankful. It's just unbelievable.

I'm basically using 10mph/gear as a change-up point ie. 30mph ->3rd gear, 40 -> 4th gear etc. This means I'm usually running at least 2000RPM. Can I let the car pull lower than that? Or will it labour the engine? It seems OK at 1500RPM, but I'm worried about the running in process. 2000RPM seems to be the sweet-spot to start accelerating, but I'm wondering if there is more fuel economy to be had?
