I have an Octavia TDi. Recently, when starting from cold, even on a warm day I have to turn it over two or three times for atleast 5-7 seconds to get it going. I have changed the glow plugs but no joy. It is killing the battery it needs so much turning over. :confused: Any suggestions. Help!

If you have changed the glowplugs for new ones I would guess the next thing to look at is to make sure they are getting current and therfore heating up. After checking that, i guess make sure all the filters are ok, such as the air and fuel filter.

Finally if that doesn't help you may have air ingress into the system. This would mean that the fuel would leak back into the tank and as such you would have to crank the engine multiple times to get it into the engine. At this point what you need to do is get out some vaslene of copper grease etc and put it on the joint in the fuel line, especially the area around the top of the fuel filter. If this fixes your problem then you have air getting in, and it's a matter of cleaning them up one by one until the problem comes back. Once you have located the problem it should be easily fixed. I had this problem on an old car (not an octavia mind)

I would also check that the car battery has plenty of de-ionised water in it and that it is well charged.
