pirelli p nero's...

Featured Replies

well, after a most enjoyable brisky BBQ meet, I thought about a chat I had with Colin, and decided to try some different tyres....

new today, two 215/40/16 w pirelli p nero's.... look good, (back tyres look a bit poor now, as soon as I can afford it, gonna change them for the same... even tho they're not worn out yet..)

I'll write a review when I've had a chance to bed them in and give 'em a thrash...

going up to Keswick on friday, so that should be a good oppertuninty :)

note: my tyre guy said, "they are 'extra load bearing, you know that yes?" well lets see if the stiffer sidewalls help the understeery vRS ;)

ok, I've run the tyres in, and given them a good blat in the wet (monsoon wet) and dry....

on all accounts I'm happy that they are better than my old F1's (my loyalties have changed!) everyone who uses these tyres seem to give them a good review, so I tried 'em and have to report the same.

wet: comming back from the lakes in a monsoon, front end grip on roundabouts in the wet seems to be about the same as the F1's, so no worries there. traction in the wet seems to be about the same... now worries there (at this point was thinking, ah well, at least they're cheaper than the F1's!) got onto the motorways, driving at speed in the torrential rain... now here they seemed MUCH better than the f1's, maybe its because I was down to 1.6 mil on my old tyres, but the nero's seem to be much better at dispersing water, had much more confidence with the standing water than I did before, they seemed to have no 'resistance' to the water like you normally get when your car is trying to aquaplane.... all good stuff, (must get some on the back now...)

Dry: best thing is the traction in the dry. vastly improved over the F1's, I can actually put my foot down in first gear, without any TC (or if TC off, no wheelspin, pulls cleanly), this is pretty good,I actually cant remember ever being able to do this, was struggling for grip in second gear with the F1's.. (had conti 2's on before) cornering in the dry is also improved, not by as much though, but it is noticable, they seem to resist understeer more, and seem to turn in a bit sharper...

all in all a good choice. thanks to all the people who have previously reported on these tyres, they have now gone to the top of my list

Cool, thanks for that little review  Im considering P zero nero's for my next upgrade. :) Im glad to hear you recommend them!

Like yourself, I have just bought a couple of Neros's for the front and moved my GY f1 GSD3's to the rear!

So far, not as impressed with Nero

guess we're always gonna have probs with the vRS for traction though eh? I found the nero's better in the dry.. , or maybe it's just that my F1's were down to the limit that I noticed the difference more ;)

what pressures are you using on the front? also did you put the original size 205/45/16 on or the bigger footprint 215/40/16's that I did ? maybe the size makes a difference.....

But how long did the F1s last? ive heard theyre like chocolate :D

mine didn't do that bad, roundabout 14k I think (can't be sure...), I often though of trying the toyo's, but my tyre guy say's I'll wear 'em out even quicker!

I think I fitted them back April/May time..... about 5-8k since then and they are are aboot half way down :) Don't get me wrong, the Nero's feel solid when cornering just lacking the traction of the GY F1's :D

34 PSI front and 32 rear. They are the 205/45/16's. I thought the size of the tyre (width)would only change the shape of the footprint and not increase the amount of contact the tyre has on the road  wider tyre = wider shorter contact and narrower tyre = thinner longer contact  Could be wrong :) Don't know how this would alter the performance?!?!

Is it best to stick to 205's at the front and 215's to the rear? oh... and why :D Thanks

Are the wider tyres on standard rims Sharky?

Mine are in dire need of change and will be done next week, and have settled for P Zeros, Cheers

I've had 215/40 on the standard rims fitted for about 13K miles now no problems at all.

agreed, originals are 205/45/16 and the replacements I used are 215/40/16, so keeps the profile (rolling radius) almost the same, so no big speedo ect differences, and it does make the 'footprint' a little bigger (wider tyre , lower profile, same rolling radius) and I believe the standard allys are fine for this (graham)

I pressure them to the high speed/ fully loaded recomendations on the filler cap ;)

Cheers Sharky.

The bigger tyres are slightly cheaper too for some reason:confused:
