DPF - no DPF / 8v - 16v

Featured Replies

When choosing my new Octavia, I have the option of choosing a car with or without a Diesel Partikel Filter.

Cost is not the issue, since it's only ~250 euro extra. However, I read on a German forum that there is actually a difference between the engines. Both 140 BHP / 320 nm torque, but the one with DPF would be an 8 valve engine where the non-DPF version is a 16 valve.

Paying more for getting less?

When asking the dealer this afternoon I got a vague answer about a not noticable difference in performance between the two. It's not in the technical specifications either.

Someone can confirm this?

I seem to have found my own answer on the German Skoda site:

http://www.skoda.de/index.php?e=1-24-4-7

2.0 TDI PD: 4-Zylinder-Reihen-Dieselmotor 2 OHC 4 Ventile / Zylinder

2.0 TDI PD DPF: 4-Zylinder-Reihen-Dieselmotor 2 OHC 2 Ventile / Zylinder

2.0 TDI PD DSG: 4-Zylinder-Reihen-Dieselmotor 2 OHC 4 Ventile / Zylinder

2.0 TDI PD DSG DPF: 4-Zylinder-Reihen-Dieselmotor 2 OHC 2 Ventile / Zylinder

for the non-german-readers: Zylinder = Cylinder and Ventile is valves :)

In Holland, this is nowhere documented. I find this slightly misleading, specifically after asking the dealer. I will definitely go for the 16 valve engine. No DPF it is.

That's worth knowing; thanks for posting the info when you found it

Hi!

I'm living in Sweden and I have a 2.0 tdi dpf. I've tested both versions, 8v dpf and 16v without dpf. The 8 v version has better torque in lower rpm:s so I really prefer that one. And it's better for the environment to. So I recommend the dpf version. Also oilconsumption has been very low, 0.3 liters for the first 10.000 miles.

Best regards Anders Pihl
