Who is Skodas Sports Tuner?

Featured Replies

Does skoda have a sporting partner who converts them?

If not why not?

We have Mercedes - Brabus

BMW - Alpina, Sytner

Ford - Wolf - Cosworth etc (years ago)

Rover - Mynheer

Jaguar - TWR

Just a thought - Can we have one too?

Don't think they have one. They just fall under VAG.

ABT for example, tunes Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda.

didn't audi own cosworth for a while???

Skoda - Shifty and others :P

Abt Sportline? Ok, they're better known for Audis, but an Audi's just a Skoda with an over-inflated price tag!

Or our own Awesome GTi

Nothing official from Skoda tuning wise.

Not sure I agree with Mynheer in that list, you couldnt buy Mynheer models, that was MG's dept.

Jaguar dont use TWR either...... not since TWR went bust over a year ago, anyway.

Mercedes official tuning house is AMG ;)

"The original Tom Walkinshaw Racing company was dissolved in 2003 but it is worth noting that a new Tom Walkinshaw Racing company, registered in Hounslow, was registered in 2004."

Interesting.

thats what i thought!:)

amg is actuallly part of mercedez, it is just a brand name they use for a factory tuned special. but brabus is an external tuning firm.

very similar to ford, they have rs as thier factory tuning squad, and cosworth do the other high performance tune-ups. incedently cosworth do a lot of tuning for other firms including gm and mercedez.

RS is just a model, now changed to ST

Wolf are the approved bespoke tuners.

Does RS nor stand for Rallye Sport?. ;)

Yes. But do they produce an RS model now?

Was the RS Focus built specially or on the production line?

i've just had another thought on GM (chevrolet). didn't they use callaway engineering for some of their tuned up specials??

oh and before the renault clio 'williams' days renault used to use gordini motorsport in france/uk

Was the Rs focus made at a totally different plant to the standard focus plant?.

I seem to recall either TWR or Prodrive having some involvement in that model (might be wrong happened before)

Answering a whole bunch of different posts here - sort out which comment applies to which yourselves! I'm a bit of a petrol-head historian, as you might guess from the following!

AMG are now part of Mercedes, but did start out as an independant, then became an "official independant", then were bought over.

RS originally stood for "Renn Sport" (German for Race Sport"), back when Porsche first used the term in the 1950s.

Gordini, like AMG, were originally an independant company.

Didnt TWR go bust before the Focus RS?

The RS that ford use does stand for Rallye Sport, and I believe they still use that branding for their Focus WRC car rather than the more obvious ST branding.

At the recent motor show, they had items of clothing on sale showing both logos.

Ferry nuff mate, but as I said earlier, Porsche have prior rights on the expansion of RS, by about 20 years over FoMoCo UK!

FoMoCo UK!

oh i've heard of them, but usually people say MoFoCo (ford)

This is the bit where I'm old enough to be your father showing again! FoMoCo comes from the 1960s.
