vRS footbrake question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an occasional problem with the footbrakes on my 2004 vRS. The brake pedal has a tendency to 'stick' occasionally when first applied, suddenly dropping to its normal 'bite point' and giving me some brakes. This is quite un-nerving when you're expecting an immediate, smooth braking effect!

I have a similar experience sometimes when I'm stationary and with light pressure on the brake pedal.

I wondered if this is a 'feature' of the ABS? Has anybody had similar problems?

Thanks

check the brake fluid level? Generally problems with important things like brakes should be looked at asap by someone trustable (? dealer).

Be careful,

Bas

have you got the breaking assist thingy on the later modles? but 2004 doesnt seem the right year for that feature...i might be wrong

Appreciate your concern for my safety, Bas - the brake fluid is OK and I'll have it checked out before it gets serious. Hoping to get to know the system when I get time to poke around.

Not sure what the braking assist thingy is that you refer to L-Y-K - can you be more specific? If my motor had it, could it be the cause of my problem?

Never too old to learn ;)

Thanks guys.

Do you mean that the pedal itself is sticking or that the braking performance isnt predictable?

They seem to use like a two stage master cylinder where the initial press doesnt brake the car alot, more meant for high speed driving where your just trying to drop the speed not actually stop. The second part to is where the braking force seems to increase in a non liniear fashion allowing you to stop in shorter distances but it makes it harder to judge where your going to stop. Many times ive had to come off the brakes slightly becasue i was going to stop to quickly.
