Not sure if i have a problem

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have recently bought a Octavia RS on a 52 plate with 46500 miles on the clock. The car is fast on the turbo but of it it is really slow, i can't even get it to the red line as it takes to long( Not that thats a good thing),is this common. The turbo kicks in at just over 2000 and drops of at just over 4000 ( It is petrol). I have no warning lights or indications saying there is anything wrong. Any response would be appreciative

Thanks

Dan

Hi mate, sounds like you have got something wrong there but I can't offer any advice as to what it may be.

Mine is a "little" sluggish (and I mean very little!) at very low revs but it pulls like a steam train from 2000 onwards right up to about 7000 so I can definately say something's not right with yours!

Hopefully there will be someone along on here soon that can offer some suggestions but in the meantime do you have any warranty on it?

If it's been purchased from an approved skoda dealer then you will have 12 months but if it's private then I'd suggest getting it along to a garage pronto!

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt

Thanks for the reply.

I bought it from a garage (not a skoda garage) and i do still have a months warranty on it, but i wasn't sure if this was normal not having a turbo before. But now i know.

Thanks again

Dan

No problems mate!

It's my first turbo'd car too although I've driven a few before so knew roughly what to expect - my missus drove mine for the first time earlier and I think she cacked herself when I told her to boot it in third and it took off!!

Get yours back into the place you bought it pronto then and get them so sort it for you.

Matt

If i understand you correctly, there's something far from right there. Once a turbo starts boosting, it should keep going until an over-pressure relief valve (usually called a wastegate or dump valve) opens, a rev limiter intervenes, or the engine self-destructs!!

In the first case the rate of acceleration should be maintained, in the second you should be close to the rev limit (think in terms of being a few hundred revs off it, not 3k off), and the third only applies with no wastegate or rev limiter!

Sounds like a boost leak or failing turbo.

If the warranty that remains is a Skoda warranty, take it to a dealer for furthe rinvestigation
