I agree too. I've got to the point where I have to replace my front tyres and I was all ready to go with the F1's after looking earlier in the year and now everyone is going on about Pirelli.

Should I go with the F1's or not?

If I had to get another set of tyres tomorrow, they would be F1s.

Having just had Kumhos on the front I can say that they have quite happily done 130mph in the 'damp', gripped well, not tramlined much, have stopped in the 'damp' far better than the contis' did and are far quieter and have not cracked or self-deflated yet!

I don't mind 'budget' tyres that perform this well:thumbup:

Just got a set of KU31s on my Fabia vRS and am so far very impressed by their performance. They replaced a set of Conti SCIIs and are possibly better in terms of grip and noise, definately better stability in higher speed corners. Definately suit the damping / srpringing setup of the standard Fabia.

PS. Yes I know I said I would go Toyo further in another thread, but the rim protection was minimal and the sidewalls softer than the Kumhos, so went with the Kumhos.

I've got the GSD3 on the front and the grip is good in the dry, and it's (compared to the SC IIs) excellent in the wet. However the sidewalls are just too soft for the Fabia vRS, and I had to slow down very significantly rounds some bends to keep a safe feel to the car. Yes it will go round the bend, but when you're sidewall is effectively collapsing on you whilst doing so it's not exactly stable/inspiring confidence.

I'll probably keep them on the back of the car as it's fine there, but will try some KU31s on the front or PZeros. It's likely the fronts will need replacing in a few months anyway, must be nearing 15k miles by then.

The GSD3s do last pretty well, but that may be due to having the rear ARB + LSD fitted ;)

Used these on the track. Two laps in and they turned to liquid.

Not as much grip in genral as the T1r's I currently have fitted which btw are on target to do at least 18000 miles and with my driving thats good.

I had some Goodyear Eagle F1s fitted on thursday. It might just be in my head, but they're noticeably better than the OE Bridgestones I had, already. Granted, my OE tyres were dead when I swapped, but still - they 'feel' better. A lot.

Only one user I know had Profiler G on a Supra Turbo (old shape). Reckoned they were lethal in the wet, but he did have stickier rubber on the fronts which may have accounted for his unexpected oversteer moments.

Have used Comp TA and they were very good.

I had Kumhos on my Honda Civic. In the dry they were pretty good but in the wet they were poor. The Toyo Proxies T1Rs I have on the Rennie are good. Good in the dry and in the wet.

I have to say that if the rim protectors had been better, I would probably have had the Toyos, however, the Kumhos are good tyres as well. Ultimately there is not a "best tyre" for any given car. Tyres give different responses and driving properties and these are as much a matter of taste as what grip they provide. A tyre that has a noticably low level of grip or snappy transition from grip to slip will not be favoured by road drivers generally, so these you would steer clear of, but the Toyos and the Kumhos are good tyres. Dont think you would be disappointed either way.

Ordered some Kumho's ...KU31 having them fitted when I get chance . Had to make my mind up as I had a slow puncture in the n/s/f/ .:mad: . Repaired/ balanced for free.:thumbup: . Will give a review later

From experience; The Toyos are good all round, Uniroyals grip well especially in the wet BUT don't last too long; Pirelli & Khumo - sory but can't say.

Marangoni Zetas have been suggested - I tried a set once and the ride was awful. They are not a supple tyre and were pattering on uneven road surfaces; I took them back the next day and swapped them for Michelin Pilots (good but pricy).

The Pirellis have tremendous grip in the dry and are not to shabby either. IIRC, TaviaRS had used them before he turned into an SDI man and his older beast loved them, (it was an octy).

However, they are rather noisy I believe, and I think that's due to the assymetric design. Maybe directional tyres are quieter ? :confused:

I have Toyo T1-Rs and they're good and if you drive enthiusiastically, they'll perform very well. At Silverstone, they didn't fade as they heated up and never lost any grip through the session. They are getting a bit low on tread now though so I'm thinking about what to change them with. When they start getting low on tread, they get pretty slippy in the wet, so watch it!

I'll probably go for the Pirellis or the Kumhos for a change to see what they're like.

Note: my car does have wider wheels and so I have 215/40/17 tyres, not 205/40/17 or 205/45/16. Even with the 215 width, the tyre is still not quite wide enough so the sidewalls are perpendicular to the tyre. With the 205, it was pretty bad and the sidewalls were very "stretched" giving a trapezium-shaped profile. This of course affects wear pattern and performance

Had my Kumho's fitted 215/40/17 on 7.5x17 rims...Tyres fit perfect the sidewalls don't look stretched better than the Falken 512's The Kumho's must be a more "square" tyre [they are also round]...I'll report on grip ect when there bedded in ...............Andy

I'd be really interested to hear how you get on Andy, particularly if you have slightly wider rims like I do :)

The Kumho's 215/40/17" fit perfect on 7.5x17" rims. The sidewalls don't looked stretched. Even though I've only done 100 miles or so the tyres are excellent in the dry and in the wet. You can plant it into a corner and you can feel them grip. I will be replacing the other two tyres soon and will be fitting Kumho's again..:)
