A friend just shelled out £850 on a Samsung 26" LCD tv with built-in Freeview. He compared several brands to find the best picture quality and i haven't got the heart to tell him but the picture still looks sh**e in comparison with the £250 LG 28" widescreen CRT he has in the room next door.

LCD has a long long way to go IMO but I guess for your purposes the Amazon offering will do the trick.

Yeah spec'd a few for a project at work, just to tag on to a DVD recorder to make sure the camera is working. Can easily get them for under £150, lots of makes now, competition is fierce.

And if you're talking big TVs, then LCD if you want it for PC throughput as well as TV, but plasma if never being connected to a PC.

Is that in the happy hour list tomorrow then?

Didn't think you actually knew what was included, until the happy 'hour' started?

Will have to see tomorrow anyway!

CRT for the win! I'd like a flat panel because of the space thing but unless you spend thousands on a good Plasma you get digital artifacts everywhere and washed out blacks with LCD. Ever wondered why they love using CGI cartoons to demo flat panel TVs on the high street?

HD makes more sense for the Americans as NTSC has a bobbins resolution and the pictures tend to look soft. The 720p improvement over a decent PAL signal is marginal unless you get to large screen sizes (say 37in+).

A 15 TFT makes sense in the kitchen - unobtrusive and the picture quality doesn't really matter a huge amount. You'd likely get a goldfish bowl screen on a 14" CRT telly. Anyone remember that 15" Trinitron widescreen CRT set that Sony did for about £370? Nice idea, shame about the price...

Ahh yes, it's happy hour. I didn't know it was selected items at the reduced price. Someone at work mentioned it to me today and was so over the moon, it sounded soo good and hence I thought it applied to everything, not just a selection of items :o :O :o
