"Blind-Spot" Wing Mirrors

Featured Replies

Hallo!

Picked up my vRS on Saturaday, so I'm thoroughly chuffed to bits with it! Put several much more expensive cars to shame, in particular a Honda Accord Type R last night which really couldn't believe that the little shopping trolley was keeping up when he was thrashing down a b-road...

BUT... I was behind a Fabia 1.2 HTP yesterday & noted that it had drivers-side blind-spot mirror glass in the wing mirror... y'know the stuff, it's got a line about an inch in from the outside edge, & the glass is kinked out so you can see in your blind spot. My vRS doesn't have this, and I seem to remember that the demonstrator I tested did have it... Do other vRS cars have this as standard, is it an option or is mine just a mistake?

Thanks for your help!

My 04 plate has one.............Glass been replaced maybe?? [drivers side only]

I tested a vRS which had one, and the 06 model i drive has it. I guess its standard? As above, possibly be replaced :)

Yep sounds like the mirror glass has been replaced with a non Skoda part - all the Fabia's I've driven have it, although I didn't find it to be particularly useful .... shoulder check worked for me :D

Chris

I relied on it quite a lot until recently. There's a bit of a flaw (either in it, the car or my technique).

On multi-lane motorways, it's possible to "miss" cars almost alongside but 2 lanes out. The mirror doesn't "reach" that far forward and the B pillar blocks my peripheral vision.

Cue lots of beeping from an irate 4x4 driver who decided to change lane at almost the same time as myself.

These days, I have a quick look too.

mmm the vRS should have one... it works, but as stated above, has limitations... a quick glance is more useful ;)

It does happen....

;)

Mine has it. 05 vrs

Should always shoulder check - they don't eliminate blind spot. You should have one though!

Hmmm... I had one on my last car, used it a lot (in addition to the over-the-shoulder check) and I am missing it.

Right! Time to call the dealer I think, four days into Skoda ownership. Let's hope I'm as happy with them as I am with the car!

Thanks for all the replies people!

hmmm... something tells me he wasn't trying! The Accord Type R has a 212bhp engine and will do 0-70 in around 7 secs. It also has a much firmer ride than the Furby. Trust me, if he was trying you would not have kept up!

I beg to differ.....:P

He was definitely trying. It was on a road that really evens out cars; once you're up to speed, it's largely the driver's attitude that makes the difference and not raw power. I could hear the type R's engine from 300m back at speed, and he definitely had the hammer down. I guess I was just pushing harder round the bends...

I've just taken delivery of my '07 model vRS and it doesn't have the wide angle section of the door mirror, so it looks like thats a change to the spec:(

I've not yet driven it (other than putting it away in the garage) as its sitting on a "56" plate so don't know if it will bother me as I usually do a shoulder check before lane changes.

My 04 has one but it's useless. Got a stick on Halfords one, plus look over the shoulder.
