Squeaky Rear Wiper

Featured Replies

I have a squeak from the rear wiper as it sweeps the glass.

I have thoroughly cleaned the glass and the wiper blade but still have the squeak.

Does anyone have the same problem on a Furby vRS or know where it is coming from?

Has anyone solved it and how?

Thanks.

try a little WD40 on the wiper blade :P

LOL, annoying as hell - dunno how to sort that. Glass polish (Auto Glym) is really good at getting the glass super clean.

Thanks D

Convinced its not the blade or the glass cos when I fold the wiper arm back on its hinge and switch it on it still squeaks, on its way back to the resting position.

Can't see water getting in it.

Have tried some WD 40 on the shaft driving the arm from the motor but running out of ideas - just hope it does not seize!!!

mine does that , its the way the wiper is fitted, you need to do something im sure Jason would know how...if he reads this:)

Ours does it too,we had an 04 plate prior to our 06 plate Vrs---no change, although I have to state the 04 was the better car to date

isn't there a problem with water ingress down the wiper shaft from the motor on some fabias , this could require lubing with the WD40

Just to update:

Used loads of WD 40 on the wiper spindle and there is no difference. The squeak is still there. The WD 40 has had little or no effect.

Contemplating taking the wiper arm off if I dare use brute force to get it off. Has anyone taken the wiper arm off before? Is there a knack to it/things to avoid doing?

Could it be the spring?

undo nut and waggle arm , not to brutally , should come off if not corroded on spindle

Chances are it's the mechanism inside the hatch. I had something similar on an old Mitsubishi and it was a combination of a squeek on the shaft got at by taking the arm off and also a squeek on the internal mecahnism, got at by removing the interior trim on the hatch!

Thanks for that, guys.:)

Will have a go when it stops raining!!

its the rubber blade rubbing the glass because theres to much pressure, thats what i think its got nothing to do with the mechanism! lust ease it slightly off so the pressure of the wiper isnt bolted down too tight this was it wont have so much pressure on the glass causing it to screetch.... i think:rolleyes:

i hope this doesnt happen on my new fabia vrs... but hmmm...

Where the plastic cover comes down over the actual fixing you will notice it's very close to the glass.

With mine there was dust/crap etc getting in between the plastic cover and the glass, and making a noise in use. I removed the cover and took about 1/2 a mm off it with some 240 grit carbide paper to increase the clearance a bit.

Sorted it right out.

If the rubber is new, this would probably do the trick

Free cure for this problem (one i use), don't use the wiper, no squeak!

Maybe there's a little mouse crawled into the motor and you trap his tail each time the wiper 'wipes'. Feed him a little cheese and this may coax him out. ;)

You may well fine the spring that holds the blade down is faulty. Have a look and you may find when the blade is sweeping the hook part of the arm drags along the screen causing the noise.
