Before I can sell the Saxo and buy a Fabia I need to stop the engine cutting out!!

I'm hoping someone can help me because it's a bit of a nightmare. Last night after a 90 mile drive or so, I was nearly home when the accelerator 'stopped working', the revs steadily started to drop until it cut out, leaving me on a blind double-bend with no verge, in the dark on the A65!

Not very funny, how the car didn't get shunted I'll never know, but it took a good half an hour before it would start , then cut out again before I finally made it back.

So.... I think it is the stepper motor causing the problem (I have my reasons for thinking this) but I don't know what it looks like or where to find it under the bonnet.

I know Saxos aren't exactly 'your thng' on here but I really would appreciate any input (without the Saxo-related abuse if that is possible on here ;) )

thats the long and short of it, yes.

You could drive it on to the yorkshire dales and leave it there (the prefered option to many), but it will spoil the natural beauty.

The intelligent answer(in the loosest scence)to your engine problem: I had this happen to me a few times when i had a Mk2 Polo. I went and got it sorted out and it was losing compression where the head gasket had gone, so get a garage to carry out a simple pressure test on the cylinder and/or cooling system and you may have your golden answer.

I'm gonna get in the garage in a minute and take random bits out unil I ffel satisfied that i've tried my best to sort it.

I'm either going to get burned, electrocuted or something along those lines but it's the effort that counts I suppose

You of all people should understand why an 8v engine is so much more fun that a 16v one - thought you knew about torque - or are all fabia drivers just talk?

True, point taken. but considered the car i had before the 16v clio was a "old skool" Cavalier, before they brought out the hi-torque engines the Cav was a 1.6 and had half the torque of the 1.2 16v clio.

also, i didnt learn how to drive a 16v properly until the national last year.. then i found the use for hanging on for the last couple of revs :devil:

As I am very sure you know, in twisty territory where straights are short it's good reaching the power band *just* as you get to the next corner, you needed it as you were exiting the last one.

theres no need to change down when you get it chipped, when it hits the torque band in 6th gear, it is still WOOOOOOOSSSSHHHH!!!!!!!

Being an X VTS owner, you really do have to work the VTS to keep the pace, a few times a "lesser" car had caught me "off guard" coz I was not in the power band..........but it's a 16v so it loved being rev'd to bits!!!

Had a test drive in the VTR it's was quick from lower down in the rev range but didn't give the same buzz as the VTS did!!

As for it not working and cutting out...............yep that sounds like the normal standard spec of the car :P
