Track Day Insurance

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm going to the Nurburgring with some fellas from Newport Club GTI in October and need to get myself some trackday insurance for the time I'm over there... I'm insured with Tesco so they certainly won't be able to help...! Does anyone know a company I can contact for trackday insurance on the Nurburgring?

Thanks for your help,

Nick

Under German law the Ring is classed as a one way public toll road. When I was with Direct Line I was covered to drive there as it is a public road, a lot of other UK insurers take that line - well they have to really as it is open to all road legal cars......

Read the small print and T&C's for your current insurer, look for things like "De restricted toll road" or the nurburgring or nordschleife by name. Ignore things like track days and competition events, as the touristfarhten is none of these. If those are not mentioned then you are most likely covered. Make sure you phone your insurer before leaving the UK and say you will be visiting Germany, otherwise your fully comp cover will reduce to third party only.

Personally, I didn't bother. I was never going to push my car to the limit of damaging it, and the whole Ring feeling on track didn't feel like a competitive vicious race, more just everyone out for a good time and showing respect to all others. :) Just get cover for EU driving. ;)

Like Jon says its a public road. Just check with your insurance company that they dont exclude the Ring as a public road and class it as a Track.

Unfortunately Tesco Insurance excludes the Ring in their T's & C's... Damn! Any ideas which companies will insure me for a few days...?

Will they insure you driving about 20 miles away from the Ring? ;)

Hehe, that's my other plan... There's a few of us going so it might just be a case of using a tow rope and dragging the Furby a few miles down the road!!!
