VVT and chip mapping

Featured Replies

Having checked that my engine does have the VVT feature fitted what is the relevance to the chip tuners and which companies do you know have said they get more power/torque as a result?

I am sure I remember PE say that this is fitted to the latest Aud TT 225 engine and it does make a big difference to tunability and 10-30 bhp is well worth having.

Does anyone have any experince of a chip tuner taking this into account in their mapping. I'm sure Superchips didn't as they did their original development on the RS engine in late 2000.

The FAQ says:

However, although it was designed with emissions in mind, the tuners find the VVT engines give slightly more power than the non VVT engines, in the region of 10-30bhp more.

i can only state with certainty the position of APR.

their standard 95RON program on a vw golf puts out 196bhp and this goes up to 207bhp on VVT models. IIRC, torque remains pretty much the same.

however, have heard that the octavia, due to its different aerodynamics, is more efficient at getting air to the IC and hence the VVT Octavias with the standard APR chip seem to be puttin out around 220bhp. Factor in the optimax program and my small gains from the milltek and i'm looking at some very juicy figures. must get it RR'ed.........

Do you know if APR actuallly changed the software to get to the VVT version or does the SAME chip get more power. As I said Superships did the dev work on the RS before VVT came out and when mine was chipped it gave 200 but that was on a low miles (4k) engine.

Have you got the turbo back Milletch system fitted now. How much did it cost you and how much gain do you expect to see on the RR?

Chris

i'll phone apr tomorrow with regard to that question.

i don't have the turbo back, i've got the catback. former will get about 15bhp and 20-30lb/ft i think. latter is just a handful of bhp, nothing serious.

Ddi you call your insurance company as its a bit obvious, wheras the Turbo back ise not easy to see unless you put it up on a 4 poster and look at the label.

How much did the Milteach Cat back cost you supply and fit?

called direct line and they weren't bothered about the exhaust.

i got it all in with my apr upgrade and got a little discount, but i think the price was 295 + fitting originally = about 330.

I assume u can have the turbo back section on its own in that it mates up alright without modification to the orginal Skoda rear section. This presumably involves a new CAT but does seem to produce most if the exhaust improvement. I note AmD quote 389 + fitting (that my local dealer could do) for the front section. Do you know any cheaper sources of Mitech?

sorry chris, didn't really shop around. used awesome gti in warrington as they did my chip ( and the upgrade ) and was very happy for them to do any work on my car.

will ring awesome later to find out about your VVT question.

sorry took so long to get back to you on this one, slipped my mind.

phoned awesome and they said that each rechip is ECU specific, so it has been optimised to take into account VVT, so they say. they cannot just drop in the same, non-vvt chip as i understand it.
