burning clutch smell

Featured Replies

i tried pulling away in 2nd this morning resulting in the car not moving an inch with massive clutch slip. you could smell the clutch burning straight away. now whenever i drive the car you can smell the clutch burn smell, although its not as strong as before.

have i done any damage to the clutch or will the smell stop and go away over time? ive heard people on here talking about pulling away in 2nd in the fabia vrs before to get better 0-60 times so i wouldnt have thought it would have done any harm?

also im running around 180bhp so could this have anything to do with it?

any advice appreciated.

sounds (smells) like you require a new clutch , esp since you're running 180 bhp , try the uprated one Jabba do , its a bit expensive though £500 iirc

I did a full-bore standing start in the Scooby and the clutch smell lasted for 2 or 3 days. Clutch still worked fine afterwards though :D If it's now slipping, you will probably need a new clutch :D

I did far worse in the MR2, 3rd gear (thinking I was in 1st) redlining and dumping the clutch expecting it fly into a doughnut................................. no, just left the most rancid smell in my car for weeks and a clutch which well on its way out.

the clutch still works fine, no slipping at all so ill take it ive been lucky this time and wont be trying it again.:o

2nd gear starts eat clutchs, i tried this in my remapped ibiza cupra tdi and would not be doing it again!

i did the same, going up a very steep hill in the dales, put the car in 2nd gear thinking that the torque would pull the car up the hill, but it didnt and the car nearly came to a stand still. when i fully gassed it up, the smell was awful, the clutch clearly slipped and in the end i used 1st gear to pull away. i'm pleased to say though at 40k miles and 5k after the incident it appears my clutch is still ok, just got a little baked that day.
