Boot CD changer generating whine at 2K - 3.5K rpm

Featured Replies

Hi All

My new TDi Octavia is only a month old (it replaces a 2001 TDi) and all the car audio is fine except the boot 6-CD changer. I get an engine-rev-related whine which is very noticeable in quiet passages of music. Dealer changed alternator but this made no difference. We checked dealer's demonstrator Octavia TDi and the same problem is apparent on that one too, so I expect they are all affected. Research on the Web suggests that cause could be an earth (Americans call it 'ground')-loop. This seems likely as the CD changer is a long way from the rest of the audio, and because the single-CD player in the dashboard radio doesn't have the problem at all. AHas anyone had this problem and sorted it, please ?

ground loops are quite common in audio systems. it's normally caused by a high reistance earth somewhere.... try cleaning the earth lead where it connects to the chassis with some emery paper because sometimes the thickness of the paint causes a problem

can also be caused by badly shielded cables too
