New Bulbs for VRS

Can anyone recommend replacement bulbs for my car (non Xenon) - am tempted to go for the power of the Phillips Rallye but suspect their legality. Thoughts and experience would be appreciated

Powerbulbs own brand are pretty good, comparable to Osram Silver stars and they have a BOGOF offer on, www.powerbulbs.co.uk

several other people here use them and have been happy.

I went for Osram Silverstars. Fantastic light output and very well controlled too. IIRC they came top of an Autoexpress review of over 20 performance bulbs on the market last year.

Any or the "Main Brand" replacement bulbs will be OK as long as the packaging are marked with the obligatory 'E' number that way if stopped you can not be prosecuted for having non type approved lights. However you would really have had to upset the boys in blue for them to go to this extreme

Also, is there a "heat" issue with the Phillips Rallye Bulbs?

If the output is greater won't it affect the headlight lens, given that it is plastic?

Are they H3 fittings for the main bulbs like the old Octy?

H1's iirc on the mk2 octy

H1's iirc on the mk2 octy

Yep thats right

how do you go about changing the bulbs on the new octi?

I'm not worried by having non e marked main beam lights. If Mr Plod is that bothered that he wants to remove the xenons to check them, he's more than welcome to :D

I've been running these in 2 cars across the best part of 50k miles. No issues at all (and that includes running them for over an hour on several occassions) :D
