312mm brake upgrade.......done

Featured Replies

I have got the 312's on this morning.

Managed to do them just before the rain really started coming down.

I have to say it was so easy, as mentioned before.

One small problem though.

The pads i have fitted do not have wear indicators so i have a warning light on the dash now:(

What can i do to get rid of the warning light? Does it need to be done through Vag-com???

Before anyone suggests it i am not removing the bulb from the dash :P

Cheers

Rob

Just done a search..................sorry should have done that first really:O

Going to "fix" the problem by shorting out the end of the connector that goes to the wear indicator in the pads.

Rob

normally the warning light will only come on when the signal wire is earthed to the chassis (or caliper in this case) are you sure it's the pad wear indicator light that's come on??

Yes it is.

I have done a search and someone else has had the same thing and they shorted the connector out and that has solved it.

excellent! sorted then!

The warning light comes on when the loop in the pad gets broken, hence shorting the plug out works.

Fixed it now.

Made a "dongle" out of the wear indicator loom that was attatched to my old pads:thumbup:

No more light on dash :P

Thanks to everyone for their advice and help on this mod:thumbup:

Now what can i do for my next mod........................................................................???????????:D

Obviously they'll need to bed in a bit but any first impressions? My 312mms should be arriving next week. :)

Have been for a bit of a run out today and they are feeling better all the time.

the pedal does seem to be getting firmer and i am expecting that the feel through the pedal will keep improving too.

Not really done any hard braking in them yet - had the kids in the car today, but once i have been to work and back a couple of times i intend to test them out a bit more.

Just need to know what the 288mm set up is worth now and what cars it will fit as an upgrade or standard. Thought someone would have filled me in on that by now.:(

Will do

i still have my 288mm brakes sat in my shed, don't think they are worth much as an upgrade but only to people with a knackered caliper.

I wondered if they would fit something like a Mk2 or 3 Golf??????

Glad you got them on fella - did you buy new pads or disks?

Kept them green?

Caliper offset is different.

Caliper offset is different.

also the spacing between the mounting lugs for the carriers is different..

so it will only be of use as a direct replacment for some other VAG car with the same size disks then??????

it would make a nice upgrade for anybody with a smaller fabia (1.4??) but the would need to change the swivel hubs too.

My 312mms should be arriving next week. :)

Where you getting them from Dave?

GolfTurbo mate, just the usual. Its the carriers that are key, new pads and discs stand you in about £100, no need for the calipers (thanks for the info Eddy!) but the carriers are a swine to get hold of. I rang a few scappies but decided my time was more precious than a bit more money, just sent GolfTurbo the business. Some carriers appeared on Ebay this weekend but soon were removed, presumably someone made him a good enough offer!

Right-ho..... (Mk4 I take it?)

Does it all fit in the available area within the standard wheels?

So Rob, now that you've had some time to bed in the pads- what do you think of the upgrade?

Cheers Mate

Not sure what you mean, presumably as a result of my post being as clear as mud. Does this help - the brakes are from a delivery mileage Audi TT, supplied by a chap who's username on here and ukmkivs is GolfTurbo. Lots of guys off of here and ukmkivs have got their upgrade from him, hence the comment 'just the usual'. I have found another source since ordering, not necessarily better but a little cheaper. TTS Roadsport (The TT Shop) are doing calipers and carriers for

I am very impressed, the pedal feels so much better under your foot. I still haven't done any "oh my god i am going to die:eek: " braking yet but the feel of the 312mm set up definatley gives more confidence too:)
