205/45/16 Or 215/40/16 ????

Featured Replies

I need the get the front tyres replaced and I'm considering this alternative size. I know Mr Grumpy has done it but what do you guys in the know think??

Are the wheels the right size for them?

Will the speedo read wrong??

Advice please :D

I'm in the same position soon. Interested also. :)

Come to think of it, i'll have Eibachs & Jabba ARB on Monday so any lower profile for me I guess will shake the fillings from my teeth. ;)

They fit on the wheels, and I never look at the speedo as I never speed:thumbup:

How do you know if you never look

Pedestrians overtake me, and I count the distance betwixt the lamp standards:thumbup:

Back on thread please girls!!!!

Personally I think a 205 is a touch on the wide side for a 6.5J rim and looks a little flabby, so a 215 would be even worse.

Personally I think they look better, give a bigger footprint, and what's wrong with being flabby?

Each to their own of course:thumbup:

Calculation done. Looks Ok to me:thumbup: That's the size then!!215/40/16 AND they are cheaper than the 205/45's

Agreed!

215s on 6.5J is really as wide as you should go; it is a squeeze to have 205s on 6.5J but that's the VW parts bin for you!

A good fit is actually 195/45 16 on the standard VRS 6.5J rim. The rolling radius is less, but right for 1.4 Fabias, and thus the gearing is slightly shorter so aceleration will be sharper (but watch the speedo).

You'll hardly notice any less grip and may well find the handling sweeter and they cost less.

Personaly I'm going back to 205/45's next as I feel the ride suffers with 215/40's. Makes sense really as the profile is lower.

I swapped my oem conti sport 2's for 215/40/16 toyo tr1's on the standard furby vrs alloys. Can confirm I'm very happy with the toyos with them actually being less noisy than the previous contis. Also now that the autumn rains are starting to pour in here it seems the toyos do very well on wet.

I guess it's a matter of personal choice, but I've got nothing bad to say about 215/40/16 combo. Plus the car looks better... now when I just get the remap and the coilovers... yum yum.. I can feel it, kw variante 2's coming up..
